“Destiny is just a fancy term for coincidence,” is one of Harry’s principles in love—not like he has a lot. That’s why he will defy destiny just to win the person he loves, Valerie, back. He’s out to prove that no matter how strong destiny pulls two people apart, LOVE will always be the greatest force in the universe.
PROLOGUE
Valerie and I, we were a package deal. You want me? She needed to tag along, and vice versa. Take it or leave it. We were complete opposites, yet there were so many things that we agreed on. We complemented each other. We were each other’s half and each wouldn’t be complete without the other.
Two years ago, Valerie and I despised each other’s existence, both caught up in the middle of a pretend relationship. We always fought—verbally and often, physically—over small things and we’d always do anything just to ruin each other’s day. We couldn’t even stand staying in one room.
I thought ‘pretending to be in a relationship’, especially with her,was the stupidest thing the Modest! Management could pull off as a publicity stunt. I hated it. But it turns out to be the most amazing thing they did that I unwillingly agreed on doing, because I was united with the most amazing girl I have ever met in my entire life.
Valerie is a funny, carefree and spontaneous person. She didn’t care if she’d look stupid just to cheer people— especially me—up. She’d dance around the room, singing with her awfully intolerable voice wearing a stupid costume just to see a toothy grin on my face after having a bad day at work.
Valerie is drop dead gorgeous, she didn’t even have to try. She’d walk in a room and grab everyone’s attention without her even noticing. She doesn’t have to wear make-up, put on jewelleries or wear expensive dresses. Her beauty is given.
Most importantly, Valerie has the biggest heart of all. She may have had a dark past with her, but then she managed to toss them all aside and started over. She changed for the better and became the most compassionate person of all. Her love for the kids was the most admiring thing about her. She’d see a little kid down the street, at a restaurant, anywhere, and she’d cuddle and kiss them. That’s why I thought she’d be the most amazing mother in the future—which for the first time I found myself wishing to father her child.
Words wouldn’t be enough to sum how much I adore and love her. She’s perfect for me and I don’t see anyone else above her to end up with me, the one whom I could grow old with. It’s just her. That’s why I promised to myself that I will do anything in my power to keep her with me. And keeping her is what I will do. I will find her. I will win her back, even if it means defying that bullshit destiny that most idiots believe in.
Yes, destiny is a fucked up concept. Most people that believe in it end up being alone and miserable. If you believe that you and the person you love are meant for each other without even exerting effort to be together, then you’re an idiot.
I am no idiot. I will win Valerie back. When that time comes, I won’t ever let her slip away again. Never.
