Jillian pulled into the apartment building’s parking lot, and then into our reserved parking space. I quickly unbuckled myself, and then twisted in my seat, as Jillian turned the van off.
“So, anybody have any homework?” She asked.
I shook my head, “Got it all done at school.”
“I’ve got math!” Amanda piped up from her spot in the back seats.
I turned and looked at her, “You need any help?” I asked.
“Yeah!”
I smiled, and then climbed out of the car before helping Amanda out. I raced Amanda to the apartment building’s front doors, and then we stood to the side quietly. I noticed that Jillian was struggling with trying to find the right key, and keep a hold on her large portfolio.
“Let me take the keys.” I said as I walked over and pulled the keys from her hand.
I ran back over to the door, and unlocked it. I pulled it open, and stepped to the side, to allow Jillian, and Amanda in. Amanda bounded over to the elevator buttons, and quickly pressed one. Jillian followed up after word, and then I entered pulling the door closed. Just as I reached the elevator, one of them dinged, and they rolled open. Jillian stepped on first, before Amanda quickly bounced on, and I followed behind quickly.
Amanda went to run her hand down all the buttons, but I jumped in her way, and hit our floor button.
“HEY!” She complained.
I spun, and began tickling her. She almost fell to her knees laughing before the elevator dinged, and the doors rolled open. I stepped off, and watched Amanda run down the hall to the apartment door. Upon reaching the apartment door, she began to dance from side to side. I laughed, and walked over to the door and unlocked it.
Amanda zipped through the apartment to the bathroom, slamming the door. I stepped inside and moved quickly to the side to allow Jillian to walk in.
“Here, let me take that.” I said, and handed her keys back, while taking the portfolio from her arms.
“Thank you, Aadin.” She smiled.
I smiled back, and then walked into the living room. I placed Jillian’s portfolio down on the coffee table, and then walked over to kitchen table. Amanda came bounding out of the bathroom, and over to the kitchen table. She set her bag down by her chair, and then opened it, pulling out her homework. She set the worksheet onto the table, and I looked at it.
“Addition, and subtraction!?” I asked enthusiastically.
Amanda nodded, “It’s really hard.”
“Really?” I asked, as if sounding like a little kid wondering what it was like.
“Yes!”
Amanda pulled out her pencil, and looked at her paper, and then at me.
“What do you get if you have seven chickens, and you sold three?” She asked me.
“Hmmm…” I made it look as if my gears were grinding, and I counted on my fingers several times. “I think you would get four.”
“Thank you!” She said, as she wrote the answer down.
Jillian watched me help Amanda do her homework, while cooking dinner. I could quickly smell steak in the oven, and I looked over at the oven.
“Steak?” I asked curious.
“Yup! I hope you don’t mind..”
“No, not at all, actually it smells really good.”
