|Chapter 4|*Human*|

But I'm only human

And I bleed when I fall down

I'm only human

And I crash and I break down

Your words in my head, knives in my heart

You build me up and then I fall apart

Last Night;

Holding Arielle’s hand in mine, our fingers locked together, I glanced at her briefly as she stared at the house in front of her, trying to think what could possibly be going inside that head of hers. I brought her to a party where the wildest animals came out and she needed to have this experience, the experience that provided the thrill of riding a roller coaster.

“Ready?” I asked her.

“No-no. I don-I don’t want to go in.” She stared at her feet as she spoke.

A habit of Arielle’s was that every time she was nervous she stuttered and she would keep her sentences short. It was a habit I liked and to me it was completely adorable.

Placing my fingers against her chin, I forced her to look into my eyes.

“Listen Arielle.” It was the first time that her name slid off my tongue and it rolled off with ease. “I’ll be there with you. It’s not like I will leave you alone with the lions. Every step you take I’ll be there taking the next one with you. Believe in me.”

I pressed my lips softly against her fingers staring intensely into her green orbs.

“Okay?” I asked, raising my head slightly and continuing to graze my lips against her fingers. I didn’t feel the sparks that people often spoke about, I didn’t feel the fireworks. What I did feel though was the rhythm of my heart running faster than rain falling from the sky. What I felt was her breath caressing my left cheek; I felt her sweet strawberry scent drifting towards me. At that exact moment, I felt absolutely complete.

“Okay.” She whispered after a short while.

Placing my hand against her petite back, we walked inside the house together.

Like every party all the couches were pushed against the walls, people danced on the dance floor as the music blared. People humping each other on one end or making out on the other and involuntarily I pulled Arielle to my side her small waist against my arms.  Standing in front of the countertop full of alcohol I grabbed a bottle and chugged it down. I could feel Munchkin staring at me with her big green eyes and panic had risen in her face.
