Song on the Side- Demons- ImagineDragons
|Chapter 1|*Demons*|
When you feel my heat
Look into my eyes
It’s where my demons hide
It’s where my demons hide
Don’t get too close
It’s dark inside
It’s where my demons hide
It’s where my demons hide

"Meet me at our regular spot" Courtney said when she saw me in the hallway this morning. Now Here I was standing outside the cafeteria.
Entering the Cafeteria could either be totally mind pleasing, joyous and exciting or it can be nerve wrecking, gut clenching and sombre. Nerve-wrecking if you were to enter the cafeteria all alone with nobody beside you where you subconsciously started to think about the way you were dressed, whether your hair was in the right place, or whether your shoes matched your outfit, while you attempted to ignore the glares and the stares and the remarks people threw at you.
Gut clenching because you had no real friends that you could actually call friends, you had low self-confidence, you didn’t believe that you were beautiful, you didn’t see past the shadows-the demons- instead you looked underneath them, you welcomed them even though you should have fought them since they were the ones threatening to break you apart.
Cafeterias couldn’t be mind-pleasing, because cafeterias are basically hell. If you ever watched the Mean Girls, you would know exactly what I’m talking about. A person may “mindlessly” spill their food on your clothes and walk away without a glance or you may just be lucky enough that the person begins a fight with you and starts to call you names. If cafeterias are hell, then it’s because of one reason and one reason only, it’s where the bullying takes place.
You can’t hide in the corner and tell yourself that that place is yours, because it isn’t. You can’t just walk in and sit with whatever table you desire to sit with because the next thing you know you’ll be dumped in the garbage can or have your eyes clawed out. The cafeteria which I’m mostly going to refer to as Hell, is where a person is picked at, where people feel left out, where people are ostracized and they are alienated. Hell isn’t a comforting place unless you know people and unless you have friends. But if you’re unlucky you may still be bullied.
See for me, entering the cafeteria was Canada, a neutral base where I didn’t feel left out nor was I picked on. These familiar faces that walked in the same hallway as me and breathed the same air as me, I have known them for four years. I may not know them, know them, but I knew them enough to put a name to a face. They never bullied me nor did they ever pick on me, maybe it was because I had friends, or maybe because I was a genius according to some people or maybe just because I was me- I didn’t know what it was but I was thankful either way that I didn’t have to face the drought that many faced.
