Dan slid under his covers and settled into his soft bed. He thought about the events that had just occurred less than an hour ago. Phil's phone, the man, the fear.

     The man.

Suddenly, Dan felt like he couldn't sleep. The monster awoke inside of his stomach and travelled to his brain, where it continued to claw at his memories. His stomach twisted when he came across a certain memory that years of therapy had shoved into the depths of his mind. All the memories started flooding back. Dan started to feel panicky and tried to shut his mind down but it refused to listen. There was nothing Dan could do except relive his worst memories.

He was dropped off at the orphanage at the age of six after both of his parents died in a drunk driving accident. Dan was so broken as he went through those doors holding the hand of a nice police man. For the first week, Dan sat in a corner of his shared bedroom and cried. He didn't eat. He screamed when anyone came close to him. Eventually a worker named Pam got him to eat. Since that day, he latched to her. He would talk to her and only her.

After a few months, he eventually started talking to others. At the age of seven, Dan was on the list of foster children. Pam wanted to make certain he was okay with staying with another family before putting him up for permanent adoption.

Dan was adopted by two doctors with two other children. The other kids would pull Dan's hair and hit him all the time. The parents were never home so the brutal 12 year olds could do anything to poor, innocent Dan. After a while, Dan went back into his shell and was taken back to the orphanage. With the love and care of Pam, Dan was better again. He was put up for adoption at the age of 9.

He was adopted by a seemingly nice man. He was taken home with this large man and his girlfriend. There was another boy there. A ginger with striking blue-green eyes. They became fast friends. Every afternoon, the boy, Phil, was taken into a room with the man and came out crying.

After talking for awhile, Dan found out Phil was adopted as well. They had a blast playing in blanket forts and painting portraits of one another and pretending they were astronauts. One day when they were playing, Dan and Phil were running through the kitchen playing tag. Dan tripped but grabbed the table to hold himself up. Being a child, he had small hands and gripped the table cloth. He fell, dragging the table cloth with him, bringing all the glasses and plates down crashing to the floor. The man had stormed into the room and was livid. He yanked Dan up by his hair and beat the shit out of him. Phil tried to stop the man but got a blow to the face so hard that he stumbled back and hit his head on the counter and passed out.

The man took Dan into another room and raped Dan. As this was happening, the police showed up. Apparently Phil had called the police. They had put the man in jail for a year, leaving Phil with the mans girlfriend and they sent Dan back to the orphanage. When he was 11, he was adopted by his mothers now.

Dan was sobbing at the memories. He couldn't believe Phil was the same boy that he was best friends with as a child. Oh my gosh. I have to save Phil. He's probably still getting raped and abused. All I need is proof to get Phil out of there.

Dan got out of bed and padded to his desk, flipping in the desk lamp. Through the light he formed a plan. When the sun shone through Dan's window, he rubbed his red eyes and smiled at his plan. It was going to take time but he was certain it would work. He would save Phil, even if it was the last thing he would do.
