“Hi Lance! Happy Birthday!” I greeted them as he escorted us inside their house. It wasn’t as big as ours but it was full of partying wild guys inside, with weird music, and the sting of liquor around was obvious, exactly opposite of what a birthday party that I envisioned. But, oh well, masyado na akong napapabasa ng mga libro ngayon, modern na, baka ito na ang mga type ng party ngayon diba? Agree?

Rin and I entered, the foul smell of the beer is getting stronger and the atmosphere became more awkward. There were many drunken men inside and fly chicks with them. Bahay ba tong pinasukan namin o bar?

Napahawak ako sa balikat ni Rin nang pinagtinginan ako ng masama ng mga lalaki na nakaupo with flirting girls.

“Are you okay?” tanong ni Rin. “If you’re not fine, we should leave..”

“No, I’m okay. Really.” Pagfa-fake smile ko na halata naman.

We sat away from everyone. Hinanap-hanap ko si Lance from the crowd but he was missing. Baka sumayaw lang muna. Sabi ko sa sarili ko while sipping my fruit punch. Rin was disoriented by the crowd and the loud music. Mukhang ‘first time’niya naman.

“psst..” I heard someone.

Tumingin-tingin ako sa paligid, then I saw it was Lance. He was signalling me to come over to him. Tinignan ko si Rin, mukhang hindi niya ako napapansin, umalis ako sa kinauupuan ako at pumunta ako sa kinaroroonan ni Lance. Syempre, alangan naming pati sa pagcoconfess k okay Lance eh bantayan pa niya ako? Ang awkward kaya nun.

                “Where are we going?” tanong ko sa kanya habang hila-hila niya ako.

                “Somewhere where we the two of us can be alone.”

                Gah? Is this really is it? Confession time na! Excited!...

                Napunta kami sa dark side ng bahay nila, sa may likuran. There was awkward silence.

                “Uhm, about my answer…”

                “No, need for that, I’m in a hurry..”

                “Ha?” naguluhan ako sa sinabi niya. Agad niya akong tinulak sa pader at napasandal naman ako. Tumingin ako magkabila, hawak-hawak niya ang magkabilang braso ko at hindi ako makagalaw.

                “Lance? What are you doing?” Nagpupumiglas ako mula sa kanya pero I can’t manage to escape.

                “I won, you’re all mine…”

                There was fear inside me, nanigas ang buong katawan ko. Siya ba talaga ang Lance na nakilala ko? Ang mabait, caring, kind, gentle, and calm composure na Lance na nakilala ko? No he was not Lance. His eyes was burning with desire, at iyon ang ikinatakot ko.

                Pero hindi ako makawala sa hawak niya, ni hindi din ako makasigaw sa kaba. I felt my tears gush out to my cheeks as he leaned down on me. Rin, help me.

Where is she? It’s my fault again, anong klaseng tagabantay ako? She was out of my sight again. Kinakabahan ako. My instinct told me she was in danger, my instinct was never wrong. But I can’t find her!

                “Hey there handsome! How ya doin?” I girl sprouted out from the crowd and grabbed my neck.

                “Excuse me but I’m in a hurry, I need to find someone.”
