I felt eyes on me as we entered the school, Will's arm around my shoulder.
They all knew.
Of course they did; it was a small enough town. Word spreads when a body is rolled out of a house.
I looked down, avoiding eye contact but the feeling was still undeniable. Being watched was not something I was used to.
"Carson, you're fine," Will muttered, leaning down toward my ear. I hadn't noticed that I had been shaking until his voice stopped me.
Will dropped me at my English class and I sat in my usual chair in the back.
Another thing changed that day, however, as someone plopped down into the normally empty seat next to mine.
I glanced to my right slightly before fighting the urge to roll my eyes and I sighed as I quickly averted my eyes down onto my desk. Sat next to me was Sophie, a girl who didn't have many real friends because, to put it lightly, she was irritatingly upbeat.
"Hey Carson. Sorry about your mom. But I heard you were dating Will Bennett. Is that true? Because he is totally hot. I would so hit that. Unless you're dating him. Then I wouldn't hit that."
A moment of silence passed as I stared at her blankly.
"So are you and Will dating?" she asked again.
"No," I answered simply.
"Oh," she responded.
"So how are you? Are you okay?" she asked.
"I'm fine," I replied shortly.
"Good!" she smiled at me brightly.
I sighed again.
