Hermione ran through the halls. She couldn't handle this anymore. She was 15 years old and terrified of what was going to happen next. Her Fifth Year so far had been full of stress and sadness. Voldemort was back, Harry was in danger, no one believed Harry and to make matters worse, she didn't even have a decent Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher to teach her how to properly defend herself.

She needed peace, she needed something that she could do to take her mind off everything. She stood in front of the corridor and closed her eyes with a sigh and thought of it. I want a place where I can be free She thought in her head and soon enough a door opened up in front of her and she walked into the room. However unknown to her, so did a certain blonde haired Slytherin. He had been hoping to get into the club that Umbridge had suspected to have been created by Harry Potter but instead walked into a beautiful music room with many instruments that were both muggle and wizard ones. Then he saw Hermione sit down. She hadn't noticed him walking in after her.

Hermione ran her hands on the keys in front of her and smiled, she slowly started to play a tune and before long she was captured in the music and she felt all the struggles and everything that was happening lately just melt away into the songs. Music made her calm. Even as the world outside was getting darker and darker, Hermione could feel her mood getting better and better as she played.

Hermione continued to play the piano but then jumped when she heard someone in the room sneeze. Instantly grabbing her wand, Hermione turned to the person in front of her and gasped in shock. "Malfoy. What the hell are you doing here?" She yelled as she had her wand pointed at him. Draco had also gasped but he couldn't hold the sneeze in. He had tried to leave the room as fast as he could but also couldn't get to the door fast enough. "I was just- None of your business Granger." He spat at her as he walked towards the door.

"Why are you spying on me?" Hermione asked him, her wand still raised and pointing in his direction. Draco didn't answer but instead changed the subject. "Why aren't Weasel and Saint Potter here to defend you from all this?" He jeered. Hermione didn't react at all but instead lowered her wand. "Why are you in here?" She asked, softer this time and Draco could feel himself loosening up and sighing.

"I know that you and Potter have some secret club that Umbridge wants to find. That you're training in there-" Hermione cut him off. "And what you wanted to be a perfect student for her and rat us out." Hermione spoke, looking right at him but to her surprise, Draco shook his head, "I wanted to join. I came in thinking I had finally got in and then was shocked to see we were alone. I was about to leave and then you started playing... You started playing that song."

Hermione looked at Draco and it was obvious. The song meant a lot to him, that's the real reason that he stayed. "It was just a simple Canon in D." She said. She looked and was shocked, she saw Malfoy opening up to her and she was kinda happy. "My mother used to play it all the time. It gave me hope. She stopped playing last year, when the Dark mark was at the Quidditch world cup. She knew what it meant. After that the house became dark- I don't know why I'm telling you all of this." He sighed.

Hermione walked towards him very slowly. "I do. You trust me. You always have. You know I can see right through the arrogant prick and you know what I see staring back at me. Someone who is scared. Someone who has been forced to build a wall and hide their feelings." Hermione said without a single pause and in that moment, she saw the wall come crashing down. "I just don't want this life with him." Draco said sadly as he sat down on the floor. "I thought that I could just go on and never have to think about my Father making mistakes and joining him. And now he's back." He continued. Hermione sat down and listened to him talking.

And they didn't stop, they talked about stuff for hours and soon Hermione looked up at the clock "I know we're both prefects but it's past even our curfew now." She said. Draco stood up. "I'll walk you back to your dorm." He said. The two had fast become quick friends. Hermione was about to nod and then remembered Harry's marauders map and shook her head. "I'll be fine. I can walk by myself." She grinned.

They met up like that for a couple of weeks almost daily. Hermione would play the piano and Draco would listen while the two talked. Sometimes Hermione would enchant the piano to play music for them and they would just talk and other times, they wouldn't speak at all while Hermione played the piano. She even started to teach Draco the song that they both loved.

"Harry can I talk to you?" Hermione asked one night in the common room. Harry nodded and stood up as Ron looked up at them but both Hermione and Harry shook their heads. "I've been meaning to talk to you about something too." Harry said as they went out the common room and into an empty classroom. "I want to talk to you about-" Hermione started but Harry cut her off. "Malfoy." He finished for her. Hermione sighed and looked up "You've been seeing us on the marauder's map haven't you?" She asked. Harry nodded "Yeah going into the Room of Requirement. What's going on?"

"-And he seems genuine when he says that he wants to join Dumbledore's Army. I mean he's known about it for weeks and he hasn't said anything to Umbridge." Hermione said as she finished explaining everything to Harry. He seemed shocked at some of the things that she had told him. "So let me get this right, you and Malfoy have been hanging out in the Room of Requirement for weeks and what? You guys just play the piano and talk. Are you sure you're talking about Draco Malfoy here?" Harry asked. Hermione nodded "Yeah Harry. He's different. I mean, how many times have we seen him and he hasn't said anything to us? The other day you clearly heard Goyle say something to Draco and Draco told him to shut up." Hermione said with a smile. Harry nodded, she was telling the truth. Goyle had called Hermione a mudblood and Malfoy silenced him. "Okay we will give him a chance." Harry spoke.

Hermione and Draco walked through the halls. "Are you sure you want to be the one to walk in with me. I mean Potter would have been a better choice. And he offered." Draco asked, looking at Hermione nervously. Hermione smiled. "I believe in you. Soon everyone else will too. I just hope I'm not making a bad choice." She said. Draco shook his head "You're not." He promised her.

Hermione walked into the Room of Requirement with Draco by her side and gasps instantly followed, some people even raised their wands at Draco but Harry quickly stepped forward. "Guys lower your wands." He asked and many people did as Harry said. All except one in fact, Ron kept his wand pointed at the Slytherin. "What's he doing here?" Ron spat at his friends. Harry was about to open his mouth but Hermione wanted to explain more. "I invited him. He wants the same things that all of us want. And it's taken me weeks to build up enough trust to let him walk into this room. This club is about building an army, defending ourselves and being together. So what if one member is a Slytherin." Hermione smiled and soon enough people were nodding and welcoming Draco to the group, shocked at how he had managed to change in such a small amount of time.

Hermione looked around the group as she thought long and hard about her memory in her mind. She smiled at the thought and mumbled. "Expecto Patronum." Before gasping as a otter shot out of her wand and started to run around the room. She grinned and kept her focus on the memory but then gasped. She saw Draco stood alone not too far away and he too was smiling at his memory. And to Hermione's surprise, a patronus shot out of his wand in the form of a lion. Hermione giggled at the irony. A Slytherin whose patronus was the symbol of Gryffindor.

Hermione placed a spell on the piano before walking over to Draco and smiling "I was proud of you today. You actually did it. And it was a pretty good one too." She admired. Draco smiled as he ate a bit of the food that Hermione was sure wasn't there a bit ago but it was the Room of Requirement after all. "I know. I tried a fair few memories but some stuck out more and it finally worked with one of the happiest I've ever felt." Draco smiled. Hermione sat down by him and smiled "And what was that?" She asked. Draco leaned closer to her and mumbled. "You and me and a piano." He grinned before kissing her lips.
