Draco yawned as he woke up and looked around at his sixth year dorm. He sat up in his bed and looked up at the clock. He had an hour and a half until classes start, the perfect amount of time to get ready and eat some breakfast. He quickly got dressed and started to make his way to the Great Hall. He then gasped as someone walked into him and books went flying.

"Watch where you're going. You filthy mudblood." He spat the girl in front of him. Hermione rushed to grab her books but didn't say anything. Draco smirked and kicked one of her books further away from them. Hermione sighed and walked further to collect her books before she ran into the Great Hall to see Ron and Harry. Draco rolled his eyes and walked to the Slytherin table where he was greeted by his friends.

"Now Mr Malfoy. Can you tell me what the last ingredient of Polyjuice potion is that hasn't been said?" Professor Slughorn said, breaking Draco out of the trance that he was in, thinking about the task he had been set. Draco just shrugged and looked to the distance as a voice said "Lacewing flies Professor." Hermione spoke. Draco rolled his eyes once more and sent a glare in her direction as she was praised by Professor Slughorn.

Draco was walking through the halls after and saw some brunette hair from Hermione Granger going into a classroom. Draco decided to follow her and grinned when he saw that she was crying. He knew it was evil but he smirked. "What's wrong Granger? Did you finally realise that Weasley and Brown are together and so very in love?" Draco taunted at the crying girl. Hermione glared at him. "Piss off Malfoy." She said in a sad voice. Draco just laughed and walked out the classroom.

But the second Draco left, he frowned. Why did he say that to her. He wanted to make her feel safe, not make her hurt even more. Yes Draco was in love with her and he had kept his feelings a secret for years for fear of hurting his reputation and then no one would want anything to do with him and he would be dead.

Draco wrote down the last few words of his Transfiguration essay as he saw Hermione walking over to a bookshelf a bit away from him. She took a book and then sat down to start reading it with her work next to her. Draco looked at her and smiled, she looked cute. She had her hair in a ponytail and she looked peaceful. Draco looked around and decided that he was done hiding things. He saw that there was no one around and started to make his way towards her. Then he heard a loud noise and rolled his eyes, seeing some third years dueling and doing magic nearby. He started to make his way over to them. "Hey." he said as Madam Pince walked over as well. But the students weren't listening and one of them, a Slytherin mumbled some words and sparks flew straight towards the Ravenclaw who ducked out of the way. The sparks instead hit the bookshelf behind them which exploded and pieces were flown everywhere.

Many people screamed and Draco's eyes widened as he realised who was at the other side of the bookshelf when it happened. He instantly ran around with Madam Pince and looked around the rubble. That's when he saw her. But she wasn't moving. Draco shook his head and ran over "No Hermione. Please be asleep." He pleaded but it was soon apparent that the girl was not asleep. When he picked her up, his hands were covered in blood and he saw it, the wood going straight into her chest. "NOOO." He shouted and looked down at her.

Draco looked down at his hands in his dorm. He had just witnessed Hermione Granger's death and he was still in shock. He laid down on his bed and closed his eyes, taking a deep breath and closing his eyes.

Draco awoke and sighed as he looked at the clock. He had woken up an hour and a half before class but he was almost certain that there would be no classes. A student had died in the castle. He started to make his way to the Great Hall when he bumped into someone and the books they were carrying went flying around. He looked at the person and gasped "Granger?" He asked in shock. Hermione looked up at him "Watch where you're walking Malfoy." She glared, picking up her books and walking into the Great Hall, leaving a very confused Draco.
