It was the summer between her 4th and 5th Hogwarts year. Hermione knew that she should be staying inside but there was no harm with her being in her hometown. She would be going to be with the Weasley's very soon at a secret location but wasn't allowed to tell Harry where she would be going, not that she even knew yet. Voldemort had returned to the world. She was terrified inside. Even her parents were scared and they were muggles.

But Hermione had to go for a walk. And she found a field she used to play on when she was younger. She used to have picnics with her parents on this field. Hermione just sat down and reached into her bag to pull out her copy of Hogwarts, a History. It was the easiest book to read around muggles because she could just say it was a fantasy story about a magical castle. The sun was shining and Hermione just sat and read the book.

Hermione was about halfway through her book and the field had already started to attract plenty of nearby muggles who wanted a nice day out in the good weather. But Hermione looked up when someone stood in front of her. She thought it would have been one of her muggle friends from when she was younger but was shocked when she saw who it really was "Malfoy? What are you doing here?" She said to the blonde stood in front of her who sat down next to her. Hermione moved away slightly and looked at him "No seriously. What are you doing in a muggle neighborhood?" She said as she closed her book and put it down by her side. "You talk too much Granger." He said as he laid down. Hermione was beyond shocked at what the Slytherin boy was doing next to her, surrounded by muggles no less.

After a few moments, Hermione looked down at him. "Won't your parents be shocked to see that you're talking to a mud-" She started but was cut off by Draco. "Don't." He said fast. He then sat up and looked at her "In all honesty, my parents are in hiding. We bought a muggle house nearby and we've gone into hiding with charms that the Dark Lord can't even break. Dumbledore helped us." He explained, leaving Hermione dumbfounded. But she then shook her head "Yeah right Malfoy. I'm not stupid. You can keep being a spy." She said as she grabbed her backpack and put her book in it. Draco shook his head but didn't say anything as Hermione walked away from him.

"She thinks I'm a spy." Draco complained to his mother. He had told her about his encounter with Hermione Granger and she was listening well. "Well you know. Your father was there the night that the Dark Lord returned so I don't think that she's going to be the easiest person to convince that we're not evil." Narcissa said softly as she watched her son. "Out of all the places we could have moved, you chose the place Hermione Granger lives." He huffed. But his mother shook her head "It was actually Dumbledore's idea that we move to this area. Maybe he wanted you and Miss Granger to see each other." She said. Draco shook his head and walked upstairs to bed.

It was strange, them being in hiding. Draco had never talked to muggles until now. He had never lived in a house so small. It was easily a house that was nothing compared to the Manor. He missed the manor. He missed being alone and not having Hermione near him. And for some reason over the past few days, he saw her more times than anyone else. She passed their house every day while walking to the meadow that they had been sat out. And in the morning she had even helped him out.

Draco was sent to the shop by his mother in order to blend in a little bit. She had given him some muggle money but the problem was that he had no idea how to use it and what it was worth. He knew that he needed to buy some milk but when it came to paying for it, he didn't want to be embarrassed. That's when he saw her walk in and greet the man behind the counter with a smile. "Hello Mr Wright. How are you today?" She asked. The aged man smiled at her "I'm good Hermione. When is it you go back to that school of yours?" He asked as Hermione grabbed some bread. "Oh not for a month and a half yet. I'm probably going to a friend's soon though. For the rest of the summer. Oh I need milk." She said and before Draco could move, she was in front of him. "Malfoy." She glared as she grabbed milk and then saw the money in his hand that he had been studying. She then smirked and looked at him "You need the gold one." She said, pointing to the pound coin in his hand before going back to the counter. Draco joined her and the man looked at him.
