Seth wandered around the yard aimlessly. Kendra was off running some errands in town, and hadn't needed his help. They'd been named the backup caretakers of Fablehaven a few months ago, and that position meant more chores. Not that Seth was complaining, it actually was quite interesting, he just wished that more of his chores included going out of the yard. Only about half of his errands forced him to head into the woods.
"Seth!" A loud call reverberated through the yard.
"Oh, hey Newel. Doren. It's good to see you guys again." Seth had been spending less and less time with the satyrs. He mostly went to the satyrs only if they felt like a game of tennis. Not that Kendra or his grandparents would still admit it, but Seth had matured a lot over the years. Okay, not as much to be a booknerd like Kendra, but still an improvement.
"Seth, do you feel up for a game of tennis right now?" Doren asked.
"Sorry guys, but I have to go to the pumpkin patch in another half hour. It's almost Midsummer Eve again."
"Alright Seth. We'll see you later." With that, Newel and Doren trotted off.
Midsummer Eve was coming in two days. He hadn't been foolish enough to open any more windows, thank God. He and Kendra had both been allowed to peek last year, but they'd both declined.
"Seth," a deep and rumbling voice called. "Seth harvest pumpkin."
"Hey Hugo!" Hugo had definitely started talking more and more.
The earthy being ran towards Seth, grabbed him, hauled him over his shoulder, turned around and began sprinting towards the pumpkin field. Seth was too surprised to really do anything, and it was kind of nice to see everything flash by being slung over the golem's shoulder. Even so, he closed his eyes and managed to drift off into some sort of peace-like state.
Suddenly, he was brought out of his trance by being roughly dumped on the earthy floor. Seth looked up to see a grinning Samoan, flashing brilliant white teeth and casting a large shadow across his body.
"Was that really necessary?" Seth asked snarkily, in the same tone Vanessa used with Seth when he'd done something particularly idiotic.
"Yes." Tanu smiled even wider. "At least until you stop calling me Uncle Tuna."
Seth made a confused look appear on his face. "I thought you liked being Kendra and my honorary uncle?"
Tanu rolled his eyes and stuck out his hand to pull Seth up to his feet. "There is never getting a straight answer out of you, Seth, is there?"
"Nope. Never. Not going to happen. No. No way. Nuh-uh. How many variations of no are there?"
Tanu sighed. "Unless you want to start talking in other languages, that's all I can think of. Now can we get to work? I on't feel like leaving the house even more unprotected than it already is on Midsummer Eve."
Seth grinned. "You got it Uncle Tuna." He jogged off to the greenhouse.
He just barely heard Tanu mutter behind him, "I better get used to that. I suppose the name isn't actually all that bad."
Seth laughed quietly to himself.
Sorry that was so bad. This was one chapter I didn't really have an idea for. By the way, I just want you guys to know that the Society of the Evening Star is still active, just a lot smaller than before.
