A week later....
"It's impossible," snapped Ben, "Every chainsaw murder has been exact down to the last detail."
The Director looked at him,
"Ben... There's one detail that didn't match; The Chainsaw Killer kills couples, this Copycat Killer has so far committed Triple homicides," replied Wolf.
Ben, Wolf, Jacobi, Seeley and the Director sat in the briefing room in silence for a bit.
"They're competing," added a voice.
Ben and Wolf craned their necks to the door and saw Nathan and standing next to him was Bryan.
Bryan walked in and sat on the nearest chair.
"He dragged me here," said Bryan as he held his chest a bit.
Nathan put a couple of boxes on the table.
"This is every murder matching the M.O of both the Chainsaw Killer and the Copycat Killer over the past three years. I went back as far as the day Lindross' wife was killed. We need to sort out which murders belong with which killer," explained Nathan.
Bryan slowly stood up,
"Nate this is fucked, there's got to be at least 15 or so sets of murders in there that either one may or may not have committed. We should be working out who the Copycat Killer is and we should be finding out as much as possible about Jak. I found out firsthand that Chainsaw Killers may also carry 12 gauge shotguns," explained Bryan with frustration.
Ben stood up too,
"Bryan is right; when you gave us this case you told us that it should be an easy-solve case. After all, you lead us to believe that Lindross' pattern changed. That's why you brought us on. Now there are two killers and both their M.O's hit too close to home for me," snapped Ben, "I'm pulling myself off the case and if I had the authority I'd pull the whole B-CATT squad. It's a Fed case not ours."
Wolf, Seeley and Jacobi stood up too.
"We're out," added Jac and Seeley,
"Me too, I'd rather take the Christmas tree case," added Wolf.
Nate looked at them with shock,
"I've never seen you guys give up so easy," snapped Nate.
Ben pointed to Nate's hand where his finger was missing.
"You obviously didn't get the message; you don't realize how lucky you actually are that he didn't kill you. The reason we're so good at what we do is because we know when to quit, you'd rather die in the process of the case," snapped Ben as he walked out followed by Wolf, Seeley and Jac and Bryan.
Nate looked at Andrew,
"You fucked up Hunt; now fix it," ordered Andrew as he left the room too.
-------
Ben arrived home with Wolf; things were still rocky between Ben and Jane but Ben was hoping it would be all better once he told her that he wasn't on the Chainsaw Killer case anymore.
"So was Jane pissed about the dog?" asked Wolf as he got out the car.
Ben looked at him,
"Not really, the kids really liked him so Jane couldn't say no," replied Ben, "they gave him the weirdest name though, RJay; whatever that means."
Wolf looked at him and shook his head.
Ben opened the front door; RJay come running up to him but there was no one else in the house. Wolf knew right away what had happened; he tapped Ben on the shoulder and pointed to a note on the bench near the door.
