Myles never left Cams side the entire time through his recovery. Myles never went back home. He stayed with Cam through every struggle. The night terrors, the constant pain. That night Myles felt like he must have yelled for hours. The boys weren't far from Cams mothers. Marie heard the yelling and screams of Myles down the street when she had stepped out for a cigarette. Myles couldn't speak when Marie had made her way to her son lying on the ground, he was crying to much to put words together. An ambulance arrived minutes after Marie had found them. Once they all reached the E.R Myles wasn't allowed past the lobby, he wasn't family according to the hospitals policy's. HE didn't care he wasn't gonna leave. Myles stayed in that hospital for three days before Marie convinced him to go back to the loft. His hands were still stained with blood even after washing them several times. Myles was only at the loft for less than two hours. He slept and showered then went directly back to the hospital. He could not be away from Cam for far too long. Everything Myles saw made him think of Cam. A hat a boy was wearing in the lobby, Cam had the same one. The music playing on the radio, Cam always shouted lyrics to his favorite songs. The coffee in his hand, their first date.
The hospital was depressing. All grey with no windows for the sunlight to shine through. Sometimes Myles forgot If the sun was still up some days. Marie had found out that the doctors decided to put Cam into a induced coma. They thought that it was safer for Cams condition. This way Cam wouldn't feel as much pain, and he would heal quicker. At least, that's what the doctors told them. Myles couldn't help but feel like this entire situation was his fault. He should have been the one to take the bullet. Myles felt like a guilty coward. No matter how many times Marie told Myles that there was nothing he could have done. Myles' mother wanted him to come home. She didn't feel like New York was safe anymore. She felt as if there was no one to protect her son anymore. Myles told her that it was his turn to protect Cam. After two weeks of anxiously waiting for test results to be read and procedures to be finished, Cam was allowed to go home. After Marie had signed release forms and finished scheduling future doctors visits, they all immediately went. Cam winced every time he took a step, he would be in pain for months before he would be back to his old self.
Most nights were spent home from then on until Cam felt back to normal. Myles did everything he could to always make sure that Cam was comfortable and in as little pain as possible. Myles had started to sleep in the living room so that Cam cold have the entire bed to himself. Cam started to think that there must be something wrong since he had returned home, did Myles not like him anymore? After Myles had gotten Cam dressed and ready for bed, he set him down and started to leave the room. "Wait," Cam had grabbed Myles' arm, pulling him into a soft kiss. Myles had started to cry, "Its my fault" Myles trembled. "I should have done something.....it should have been me." Myles had tears streaming down his face at this point. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry Cam!" Cam couldn't help but shed a few tears of his own. "I love you so much" Myles couldn't stop. Cam just stared at this caring loving boy. "Its not your fault, I promise you that this is not your fault." Cam pulled Myles close to him, he was tired of sleeping alone. He needed his love by his side. After that night Cam started to feel better and better. He was walking on his own and doing more by himself for himself. After one morning of waffles and coffee Cam said, "I want to go home." Myles looked up from The Times surprised but what Cam had just said. "Are you sure your ready?" Cam was sure of what he wanted. He wanted his life with Myles in Seattle. His little job and small apartment and crappy car, he missed all of it. "Ok" Myles said, he was glad to be going home. The boys packed that night and said their goodbyes to Marie. Of course she was crying. She didn't think that Cam was fit to fly yet since the mugging. Cam loved his mother and part of him didn't want to leave but he knew he had to get back to his new life. The boys got onto the plane and waited to take off. Myles acted like he did before on his first plane trip, nervous and scared. Cam calmed him down with a kiss and an I love you. They flew to Seattle holding each other tight.
