~Months later~
Aphmau's POV
*Play Song*
I take myself in through the lens of the vanity mirror. Some scars still show—intricate patterns about my skin like a lace, but most of the cuts and bruises have faded.
It almost felt...weird to not have those injuries. A horrific thought to even give life to, but one which came to me nonetheless.
I fiddle with the cuff of my sweater, hooking it around my wrist restlessly.
Its been months, but of course, it still haunts me.
But the girl in the mirror is not the one from a couple months ago, or the one from a couple years ago. This was the newest version of Aphmau Shu Phoenix, a beautiful fusion of her past and the present, finally looking towards the future with...hope. With promise.
"You look beautiful." I hear a voice purr from behind me.
Without even turning around, I knew who it was.
I smile. Oh boy, do I smile.
He comes up behind me, snaking his arm around my waist, resting his chin atop my head.
"It's going to be okay. It'll be over before you know it." Aaron reassures me.
Today was Day one of Ein's trial.
The court wanted to give me time to recover before this.
Why bother, I had thought, when I would have to recover from the trial as well anyway.
Having to...see him again.
Aaron must have seen my expression change through the mirror, because he angles me towards him just enough so he could gently kiss me.
I kiss back, my worries dissipating like flurries in a winter night.
We had just started dating about a month ago.
What?
Is it such a surprise?
He's always been there for me.
He respected my wishes.
He cared for my feelings.
The cage Ein had created with his hate had cracked away with the love of Aaron and my friends, so I could finally see clearly.
As it was always him.
And for it all, I thank you, Aaron Lycan.
Thank you.

I bite my cheek with trepidation in my front row seat in the court room, the bustling of suits and law jargon quickening my pulse.
Aaron's grip tightens on my hand, and I squeeze back.
The commotion ceases as the judge smacks his gavel from his perch.
"This court is now in session."
The metal doors at the right side of the large room buzz, signifying they were opening.
Oh no...
I don't think I can do this.
Two police officers, each holding one of Ein's cuffed arm's, escort him towards his seat.
He finds me almost too quickly, his devilish lips curling into a smirk.
My lips parted as my heart shriveled at the sight of that damn smirk. A breath seizes in my throat as every fiber of my being burned—warned me to run, to escape.
