AN: Well here's chapter 5!  Please let me know how you're liking the story so far.  What are your thoughts on it?

Choose a bride??  Already?  I never thought I'd have to choose someone so early.  From what I hear, choosing isn't really a part of it.  Anyone ever ever talked to about the process claimed that their partner was destined for them.  People that they never would've chosen on their own ended up being their perfect match.  In a way it's exciting I suppose.

Non royalty always ended up with other fae.  But those from the royal family were always destined for humans.  No one seems to know why though.  I wasn't about to question something that has been going on for the entire reign of my race.

Rarely do we step foot outside of our realm.  We can easily hide ourselves from humans if we wish, but they are so unobservant it's usually not necessary.  To them we look like any other human, albeit our sharp features.  To us we look normal, but to humans we're almost scary, or so I've heard.

It's pretty common to have a few faeries from each village who enjoy causing chaos with the humans.  If we can catch it in time we put a stop to it though.  Many centuries ago when my ancestors ruled, trickery was encouraged.  Faeries were looked down upon with humans and other magical creatures.  My grandfather put a stop to that and we have carried on this way ever since.

With the very real threat of war with the Goblins looming above us, it seems like an un-opportune time to be looking for a bride.  If the stories are true I won't actually have to look myself.

Deep in thought, I hadn't noticed that I had wandered outside the village boundaries.  The dense forest was lively today, small woodland creatures rush up to say hello before dashing into the undergrowth.  Smiling I kept walking.  It was almost as if I was being pulled along by some invisible force.  I just let me feet take me where they would.

Soon I came to the gate to the human world.  Only a few times had I set foot there, and that was only with my father or brother.  Never on my own had I ventured this far.  Too late now.  Another step and I was through.

I shielded my eyes from the brightness of the sun.  In the forest, the height and diameter of the trees kept most of the sun at bay.  Here there wasn't much tree growth, except in certain areas from what I could tell.

Feeling the pull again, I continued on my way.  The forest thinned out as I came to a grey house.  It was of good size, a spacious yard, and a well kept flower garden.  Whoever lived here was pretty in tune with the surrounding nature.

Curiosity overcame me and I ventured closer.  From what I could tell there wasn't anyone here as the house was completely silent, devoid of movement.  I went from window to window peering inside.  The interior was clean and spacious, if not a little bare.  As though the occupants weren't here long enough to collect furniture and decorations.

I came to what could only be a sitting area and that's when I saw her.  The magnetic pull that had been leading me all along increased ten fold.  I drew in a sharp intake of breath as I memorized her sleeping form.

Long, wavy, strawberry blonde hair was fanned out over her pillow.  I chuckled at how many blankets she was cocooned in.  She reminded me of a caterpillar, growing into a beautiful butterfly.  My beautiful butterfly.

I frowned.  Where did that possessiveness come from?  I know nothing of this girl, how could I possibly feel this way about her?  Could she be my intended?

Longingly I gaze at her upturned face.  Even asleep she turned it towards me, giving me a better view of her.  She has petite features and is almost doll like in comparison.  I can't tell her size but I imagine from first glance she's small.  The fae are naturally tall so regardless of her size, she'll fit perfectly with me.

Without warning, an animal jumped up onto the window I just happened to be looking through making all kinds of racket, and startling my lovely bride-to-be, awake.  Not wanting her to see me and think me some psycho creeper, even though I kind of am, I ducked quickly around the house, wishing myself unseen as well.  Can't have her fearing me before we even meet.
