Recently I seem to only be able to dream of nightmares. I'm stuck in darkness and can hear screaming, my mother, my father. Their screams echo in my head even after I wake up. So when Agar all of a sudden startled me awake with his insistent barking, you can bet I might have peed a little.
Wildly I looked around and I swear that I saw someone outside the window. I jump up and run over as quick as I can, trying to catch a glimpse of who it could have been. I don't see anything out of the ordinary.
"Do you see anything Agar?"
He growls in response. I know he can sense something. Dogs are a lot more in tune and aware than humans are. I trust his instincts. Mine are telling me that something is there, watching me. I can feel my hair stand on end.Making my way around each room, I double check all the doors and windows to make sure they're all locked. They are of course, but now I'm 100% positive.
Going up to my room I grab my softball bat and bring it back down with me. I'm the number three batter on my team back home so I've got a pretty powerful swing, even though I don't look very strong. It's so satisfying to see someone doubt you, and then you turn around and just prove them wrong.
Back downstairs I take another tour around the house, looking for anything out of place or creepers. Didn't find anything. I'd better keep busy though or I'll just freak myself out. Yeah, maybe I'll cook dinner for grandma and I.

Whew that was close! She almost saw me before I went invisible. I could tell she was frightened. That was the last thing I wanted for her to be of me. Having that animal around helped to calm her down though, enough for her to walk around checking the doors and windows.
She briefly went upstairs and came back holding a long metal thing. The way she was holding it made me smile, she looked awful fierce for her small stature. I have no doubt she'd automatically start swinging at anyone who came near her. She was intimidating, but not by much.
After re-checking the windows, she went into the kitchen. So my little butterfly can cook? That's a good talent to have. I certainly don't have it. People of the fae don't eat much, only when we feel like it. Our bodies last a lot longer than humans but we gain our nutrients almost like plants. Through the sun mainly. Some are gained from what we consume, but not enough to actually sustain us.
The girl took out some chicken, rice, and fresh vegetables. Either she really likes to eat or there's another person who lives her with her. The thought of another man being so close to her made my blood boil.
Through my peripheral vision, I noticed another human coming up the path. It was an older lady. Definitely not a man. That's a relief. Having rarely come to the human world I'm positive I've never seen or met this woman, but there's something so familiar about her that I cannot place.
I stand just out of view, but even with my invisibility she looks my way. She can't see me, can she? Only others of my kind can see through my magic. Her stare didn't last as she unlocked the front door and went inside.
"Hi grandma, I'm glad you're home." Says my butterfly to the woman. Grandma huh? I can see the resemblance between them.
"My ghraih veen, how has your day been? I noticed that the front door is locked. You know this area is safe and we don't have any crime when everyone knows us."
"Agar started barking and woke me up from my nap. I turned to look at him and thought I saw something outside the window."
"Ah, and that is why you have your bat also? Did you see anyone outside? Or since?"
"No, not since that one time. Hopefully Agar scared them away with his ferocious bark." She leaned down, smiling, to scratch the animal behind his ears. Her smile is radiant. She is the most beautiful creature I've ever laid my eyes on. In the couple centuries I've been alive, I don't think I've seen anyone quite like her.
"Well, I didn't see anyone as I came up the path to the house. If there was someone, they must have been scared away."
"I hope so. I want to get out to the garden before nightfall. Now that you're here I feel more safe. Enough to go outside anyway."
