The Life I Once Had

Clueless

                                                                                     At the fort

After a bit of bickering and going through a lot of options, we decided that we would go hiking and have some sandwiches for lunch before coming back for a swim and some volley ball. For supper, some sausages and a campfire. The two groups went to change. The girls group being one person short, while I gave the dogs their food and water and did the dishes. We packed a bag with pre boiled water and ingredients for ham sandwiches. We packed another bag with some ponchos, sweaters and a first aid kit before heading on our way. "Where to?" I asked stepping over a fallen tree. "Ooh, how about sun rocks?" Katie jumps excitedly. "Great!" Nick replies tripping over a tree root. Sun rocks is a large patch of huge rocks where the sun hit through a gap in the trees. "What are you going to draw today?" Justin asks noticing my sketch book. "I don't know, depends on how I feel." I answer shrugging. We start to sing 100 bottles of beer on the wall and get to 5 more bottles of beer on the wall when sun rocks comes into view. "Come on guys" Katie yells over her shoulder sprinting towards the rock. We spring after her and climb up the warm rock to meet her. I open my bag and pull out some mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, lettuce, cheese, ham and bread. We sit in a circle and reach to make our sandwiches while Nick pours out warm water for us and gives some to the dogs. "OK, I have a riddle: WHat creature walks on 4 legs in the morning, 2 legs in the afternoon, and 3 legs in the evening?" Mel asks taking a large bite of her sandwich. "A man" Justin answers through a mouthful of sandwich. "Correct." Mel exclaims. We continue to exchange riddles; some hard, some easy, until we had finished eating. When we had finished, Nick, Justin and Hadies went to climb trees. Mel and Katy went looking for bugs and I sat down and opened my sketch book to a blank page with my newly sharpened pencil ready. I glanced around and saw Bisquet and Whiskey lying on the rock with the trees in the background.

                                                                                   At home

Detective Baker had made it back to the station and was writing all of the information down on a white board. There wasn't much so she hoped it would soon fill up. It was an hour or two later when her people started to knock on her door. "Baker, Sir, the blood is all O+. I checked and the boys both have O+ blood type." Trish informs Detective Baker in her office. "Great." "Boss, I checked the missing report files and did find one of two missing 16 year olds named Brad and Bradley filed by a Mr. Late." Jake informed her just after Trish. "Also, the Lates are here to see you and are in the interrogation room." Detective Baker walked briskly towards the interrogation room. When she gets there, she sets her clipboard down. "Hello Mr. and Mrs. Late. I am Detective Ashley Baker" Detective Baker introduces herself shaking their hands. "You filed a Missing Persons report for your grandchildren Brad and Bradley Cooper. Am I correct?" Detective Baker starts off. "Yes, on Thursday I filed the report. We woke up and they were gone. They left no note or anything." Mr Late informed the detective. "Why, are the alright?" Mrs. Late asks, a worried expression coming across her face. "Brad and Bradley were found dead in the Cooper's pool with stab wounds" Detective Baker delivers the devastating news with a sigh. "Oh sweet Heaven" Mrs. Late exclaims faintly. "Can you tell me if the boys seemed 'off' to you?" the detective asks glancing at her clipboard. "No, they seemed just fine" Mr. Late answered with tears starting to run down his face. "We are going to be searching your house and property. Is that alright with you?" Detective Baker asks grabbing her clipboard and standing up. "Yes, just find the killer...please" sobs Mrs. Late. Detective Baker leaves the interrogation room and sends a few men to go search the old worn down farmhouse before going to see Cristy. Detective Baker struts into the room and stands a few feet back from Cristy. "Anything so far?" Detective Baker asks. "Well the cause of death is two stab wounds to the stomach by a half inch object. The victims did not die immediately. I was a slow and painful death. I have found something interesting on their backs burned in by a match or lighter" Cristy informs handing two pieces of paper to the detective. "One has the numbers 5 and 4 and the other has the numbers 2 and 6" Detective Baker says looking at the paper. "Anything else?" Detective Baker asks putting the paper into her folder. "Yes, there are thick marks around their wrists like they were tied up with chains. Their nails are broken, torn and ripped as if they were clawing at stone; which explains the dirt under what's left of the nails. Their stomachs are almost completely empty. It looks like they haven't eaten anything for at least a few days." Cristy finishes handing Detective Baker more pictures. "Thanks. Tell me if you find anything else." calls Detective Baker over her shoulder. "Bring Constable Lea to my office now." Detective Baker barks walking into her office. Detective Baker hangs the new evidence on her whiteboard. "Yes detective?" Constable Lea asks knocking on the door. "I need to get Liam Ble here. He lives with the Coopers. And, I need Samantha and Hadies Cooper here as well. They are camping on the island across from their house." Detective Baker orders. "Yes detective" replies Constable Lea nodding his head. There was another knock on the door and Detective Baker looked over from her whiteboard to see Kate, one of the people she had sent to the old Lakes farmhouse. "Baker, we took the boys belongings and they are waiting for you. We did a thorough search of the house and land. we found nothing unusual." "Bring their things here" Detective Baker orders. Sighing, Kate silently leaves.
