Lissa's Point of View

Feeling helpless is the worst feeling in the world, having others risking their lives for you. But that's how it worked in our society; us Moroi stood behind as our guardians gave their lives. Christian has tried his best to turn that around; instead of the Moroi being a sideline, they would use their gift to help their guardian. I have seen how proud Christian has been from his work in integrating Moroi to fight alongside their guardians. Some were all for it and others not so much. Time like this is where all that practice would come into place, an academy attack.

Standing here hopeless is the worst part, as my team or better, my family was out there fighting the Strigoi.

"Inform others back home," I remember Rose telling me before she went back out.

I pulled my phone and called Christian, knowing that he would take the news much better than if I called Dimitri. As it ringed, I mentally prepared myself for what would come out my mouth, knowing how pissed he would feel knowing he couldn't protect me.

"Love, how is Saint Basil's?" I heard my husband say after two days of not hearing from him.

"We need the plane to get here sooner than later; there are Strigoi in the academy. Rose told me to call so the jet would get here quicker.." I said quickly but came to a stop when I heard the most disturbing news.

"Crap, one of them singled her out," I heard Viktoria say out loud and later regretting it.

"Lissa, what is wrong?" I heard Christian ask worriedly.

"Viktoria, go!" I signaled her to go and help Rose.

"Strigoi have attacked the academy. Remember the reports we had about Strigoi going after Dhampir Shadow-kissed; they are after Rose. Someone must have seen her or spoken about her being a Shadow-kissed all this time," I informed him.

Rose has been a Shadow-Kissed for nearly ten plus years, each year 'it' develop and now she walks with the ghost-like if they were living. It took her a long time to handle seeing them the way she did. We tried giving her more Spirit induced charms, but it only helps with the headaches.

"Rose is a big girl; she knows how to handle herself. We should be landing within an hour, "Christian said worriedly.

I knew that he was right. Rose knew how to take care of herself and those around her. But at the same time, it scared me, knowing that she would give her life to save those around her.

"We will be landing within half an hour. Please take care of yourself, my love.  I'll inform Dimitri and the others just in case," Christian replied.

"See you soon," I whispered as I closed the phone.

Not being able to hear anything from outside worried me. But at the same time, I knew that Rose would do anything in her power to save everyone. I stared at the door in hopes that she would come in, telling me that everything was over. But from the noises outside, it told me otherwise. My nerves were getting the best of me until I started to hear a sound. I began to look from where the voices were coming. When I noticed that Viktoria must have dropped her headpiece, I quickly went for it.

"Rose?" I asked in hopes of hearing her voice.

A half a second went by, and my mind wanted to play with me.

"What if something happened to her?" I thought.

"Rose, please let me know you're okay?" I said again.

"Lissa," said the voice I waited to hear.

"I can't talk long, I'm going to have to take the bracelet off," Rose said as she knew I would understand.

Rose carried a spirit infused bracelet that helped her much. It helped her with the darkness and from the ghost that followed her.  Taking off the bracelet exposed her to the true power of being a shadow-kissed. The bracelet was something that helped her not go mad as the pastor back in the academy once told her she would with time.

"Liss, listen please.  You remember what I told you about how Victor died and his brother kept calling out his name?" Rose said.

"Yes, I remember," I replied back knowing how Robert called out his name to keep his spirit around.

"This myth of turning a shadow-kissed has to end here, I can't have them follow me. Just remember to call out my name," Rose said before she disconnected.

"Rose, I need to see your body in order to work!!," I yelled back knowing she didn't hear anything.

Her last words kept playing out in my head, knowing what I had to do. By calling out her name as a sprit user kept her spirit around. Robert had tried doing that with Victor but in their case they were in the same location.

"Would it work even though I can't see her?" I thought myself as I started to pace around.

I waited on that sense where I would feel the bond break in order to call out her name. I knew that my mind would play me dirty If I just stand there and wait. My first reaction was to run to my best friend.

That's what exactly what I did not caring if I put myself in danger..
