Dimitri's Point of View

Our arrival to Russia felt like agony, knowing everything that was going on, yet we couldn't help. Christian kept pacing around, and knowing him; he felt the same way. Our wives were in danger, and we couldn't do anything about it up here. When the plane landed, we saw the aftermath of it all. Bodies were piled in corners if they were Strigoi, and if lined up, they were either Dhampir or Moroi ready to be identified. Christian and I started scanning around hoping to see them.

As we began to walk further into the campus that's when I saw her, my Roza in the arms of Eddie. I didn't notice myself running towards them with all my might. Feeling numb is the worst physical state you could be in. It felt like my peace was ripped away from me seeing Rose unconscious.

" With you, I find peace, with you I find joy in my darkest hours. With you, I always smile, and that is because you are the best thing that ever happened to me. I love you with everything that I am,"

I will always remember those words, my vows to her, my wife, my Roza. Saying her name instantly brings happy memories. From the first day, till when we had our three children. I thought nothing could ruin how glad we were. But the reality was clouded by uncertainty in our world. Our lives were always in the line, to protect the Moroi. The Moroi who need protection from the Strigoi vampires. My wife had done what we have been trained for, to save them from protecting them.

" they come first."

Those three words were drilled into our heads from the time we could walk. She had placed her life on the line when they were ambushed by the Strigoi.

" In three days, I'll be back in your arms."

That's the only thing I could remember from our last conversation. The next time I saw her, she was dead in Eddie's arms.

" nooo!!" I yelled.

She looked pale, covered in her own blood. She didn't look like my Roza.

"Rose, I need you to stay with me," I heard someone whispered.

"What happened to her?" I said worriedly.

"I'll explain later," Eddie said.

"We need to get her to the hospital,"  Lissa said as she approached us and passed her hands through Rose's face.

We made our way to the hospital unit that the academy had, and they gave us our own personal space. Eddie placed Rose's body on top of the gurney, and Lissa instantly placed her hands on her.  All the guards started to huddle outside the room, waiting to hear good news. They knew that Lissa was a strong Spirit User, and they had the confidence that she would be able to do something for Rose. My full concentration was looking at Rose, yet I kept hearing Lissa repeat her name over and over reminded me of the time Robert did that for Victor when Rose killed him.

"Lissa is trying to bring her back," I said to Eddie as I waited for a confirmation.

He nodded giving me confirmation of what was happening before us.

"Rose, I need you to stay here with me. I need you to come back," I heard Lissa whisper to her best friend.

"Dimitri, I need you to talk to her," Lissa said out loud, which got me instantly to their side.

I huddled around them and picked up one of her hands, instantly feeling the coldness. I got close to her ear, and I began to whisper.

"Rose, my Roza, come back to me. Baby, please stay here with me. I need you, our children need you. I need you to fight this, don't let them take you away from us. Please, baby," I whispered.

"Breathe for me," I said as I felt a tear fall, knowing that I was close to losing it.

Feeling numb is the worst physical state you could be in. The pain and the agony of losing her, losing the person that had brought me so much brightness and beauty. My eyes could see it, but my heart could not accept it. I hoped that she would wake up, that this was just a nightmare and that I would wake up soon to find her laying next to me smiling.

Everything seemed to come crashing down. I was in agony, I wasn't able to do anything to save her. To have her here with our children, reassuring them that everything would be alright. All I wanted was to have her in my arms and cry because I wouldn't see her anymore. I wouldn't be able to wake up next to her and see those beautiful brown eyes that I love. I wouldn't be able to tell her again that I loved her or be able to hear her sweet loving voice.

I kept her hand on my own and kept my eyes on her knowing that my wife would do her best to win this. She would make her way back to us, she wouldn't let the land of the dead have her. From the corner of my eye, I would see Lissa. She looked concentrated, and all of a sudden, I saw her turning paler than she usually is.

"Christian!!" I yelled, knowing he wasn't far away.

By the time he came in, Lissa had started to wabble, and he caught her when she let go of Rose. My eyes went back to Rose, and I saw the color come back to her skin and within a blink of an eye, her eyeshot wide open. Rose quickly began to warm up and her natural color started to come back.  Her eyes quickly fell on me, and I felt life come back to me, as my personal nightmare was coming to an end.
