Chapter 2:  Blue Eyes

The wind was refreshing.  It wasn’t too cold nor too hot and I was loving it.  Here in Alexandria, Louisiana the weather was so bipolar.  I attended Alexandria high, while Emily went to Alexandria elementary.  Almost everyone that lived around here was loaded with money, and I mean serious money.

The way the kids at school see it is the more money you have, the more popular you are and believe it or not even though my “parents” had money I am at the bottom of the social ladder.  This is only our second week back at school, I’m finally a senior.  Considering everything that has been said and done my life is finally taking a turn for the better.

The school finally came into my view, pulling me from my thoughts and focusing on keeping out of peoples way. If I kept out of their way then just maybe they would leave me alone.   Maybe.  I had to pass by the parking lot where all of the popular kids hang out to get to the main entrance so I just looked down and tried to go unnoticed.  I didn’t even see the persons foot in front of my legs when I went down, putting my hands in front of me trying to break the fall. Laughter burst out from who I could only assume to be Marci and her group of friends.  As you could have guessed they’re the most popular people at this school and if this isn’t cliché enough she’s the head cheerleader.  I looked up to see her platinum blonde hair, tight jeans well tight everything really, and her friends laughing at me. I began to get up when I heard them stop laughing.  That’s strange. I turned to look at their group but they were all faced with their backs to me gazing at the black Mercedes Benz.  I guess we had new students.  I took this opportunity to make it to my first period. There was still about 15 minutes before class started.  I was smarter than most of the kids here.  I tested out of all my English and math classes so I just took AP English and AP Calculus. Then I had Honors biology 2, art 1, western civilization, lunch, gym and finally free period since I was so ahead.  Each of my classes besides gym only consisted of about 7-10 kids including me.  People at this school weren’t worried about their grades, they didn’t care what happened after high school because they had their mommies and daddies to look after them.  All they did was party and have sex.

The once empty halls were now starting to fill up with students getting their needed materials from the locker.  I already had my stuff being I was early so I just walked into my English to be greeted by Mrs. Hoob.  “Hello Allison, how was your weekend”? she questioned me. “Fine” I mumbled then walked to my table located in the back of my classroom.  There was only four other students in this class with me and they just ignored me. I sat down at my table on the left side today wanting to be close to the window.  The scenery here is pretty great.  Outside there is a breathtaking forest with the leaves just beginning to change colors.  I was so focused on the view I didn’t even hear the bell ring signaling the start of class.

“Okay class” she began only to be interrupted by a knock on the door. “Come in!” she said.  This didn’t interest me so I took my book out of my bag and began to read pride and prejudice.  What can I say I liked the classics . I resumed reading  from where I last left off.  This book was hard to understand because it was in old English, I made a mental note to ask Mrs. Hoob to help me understand it better.  I was about to flip the page when I heard someone clear their throat.  I looked up to see the most striking blue eyes I’ve ever seen.

“Could I sit here?” he ask and I nodded giving my attention back to my book.  The sound of two more chairs filled my ears so I looked up again to see two other boys sitting in the table on side of me.  I’m not a very stereotypical person but I think these boys would be what you called ‘scene’ kids but boy were they fine.  I began to read my book again becoming so enthralled.

“What are you reading?” I almost jumped out of my skin “Woah! I didn’t mean to scare you. I’m sorry.” He smiled at me, but I watched it fade as I looked back towards my book.  He took the hint well that I didn’t want to talk and left me alone for the rest of the period.   Why can’t just be like everyone else and stay away from me.  I don’t need anyone getting close to me and finding out my secret.  And if you were wondering, I’m not paying attention in this class because I’m passing with flying colors.

It was so quiet in the class that the only thing you could hear was the sound of the clock ticking and the few students writing.  By each passing moment I was getting more and more infuriated and I don’t know why.  The boy with the blue eyes noticed as he kept taking glances at me and reading my body language while he furrowed his brows.  I need to get out of this class. No, what I need to be is close to him. What am I thinking?! “Pull yourself together.” I mentally cursed myself.  I just feel the need to be close to him.

I was brought out of my mental freak out when the bell rang for the next period.  I left my chair as fast as I could but before I would get to the exit someone grabbed my arm sending sparks, like shocks through my veins. I gasped in surprise and looked at the culprit, but in the back of my mind I already knew who it was.  Blue eyes. “You, uh- You left this.”  He was struggling to get his words out.  I wanted to say something but my lips were sealed and I couldn’t find the will to speak.  He handed me the book and I ran from him.  “Nice going David.” I heard someone say.  So that’s his name, David.
