"Combat Training- Day One: Within this session you will learn how to defend yourself when faced with an attack. Meet at the Sports Hall at 3.30pm in clothing suitable for physical activity."
Liam read the letter aloud which had been handed to the 5 boys of dorm room 3 by a 2nd year student. He looked at each boy in turn before folding the letter back up and putting it on the bed next to him.
"Attack..." Louis spoke aloud, staring up at the ceiling. He was laying down on his bunk, his arms tucked under his head as he stared up at the ceiling.
Attack. The word stuck in Liam's mind. Why would they need to defend themselves against attack? Liam felt he wouldn't need this combat training anyway as he had been boxing for years.
"It's 3.10 now lads, shall we make our way there? I don't know about you guys but I don't actually know where the sports hall is..." Niall said, already pulling off his school trousers and slipping on some Adidas jogging bottoms. The others took this as a sign to do the same.
"Okay then, swing your arm up... NOW!" Liam quickly swung his right arm up to protect himself against Mr Jackman's swing of a fist. Liam swiftly managed to block the PE teacher from punching him in the face. Mr Jackman lowered his fist and nodded.
"Good work... you understand now boys?" The 5 boys have been in the sports hall for half an hour, learning self defence moves. Liam had regularly been used to show examples, having knowing a lot of the moves. Harry was partnered with Niall, Louis with Zayn and Liam with Mr Jackman.
"Okay, get into your partners and practise." Mr Jackman and Liam walked to one side to practise as the other lads stood up from the small wooden bench.
"What's the point in this... why are we doing this?" Louis asked as he lazily went to punch Zayn, which Zayn was easily able to block with his arm.
"I must admit it is a little strange." Zayn said as he swung for Louis. Louis wasn't paying much attention and Zayn stopped right at Louis' chin. Louis looked down at his chin and laughed as he realised how close he was to being punched then.
"Keep up..." Zayn jokingly said as he swung again. This time Louis managed to block the blow. The quiet practise was disturbed by a fit of laughter from Harry and Niall. Louis and Zayn turned to see them nearly on the floor. Louis felt him turn a light shade of red as jelously bubbled in him. He subsided the feeling and carried on with Zayn.
Mr Jackman left Liam as he walked over to Niall and Harry.
"Come on now lads, this is for your benefit..." he said as he crossed his arms and looked at the two boys. Harry stood straight and looked at Mr Jackman before apoligising. Niall eventually did the same.
"Yeah, sorry sir..." Niall added, "um, one question. Why are we doing this?" Mr Jackman pursed his lips at Niall's question, a look in his eyes as if he had expected this question sooner or later.
"You'll be told soon." he said before walking back over to Liam. Harry looked at Niall, raising an eyebrow, before both continuing with their task.
The next day Liam and Zayn decided to spend their lunch together as Niall, Louis and Harry had gone to the lunch hall together. Although Zayn was rather hungry, he decided to skip lunch and take Liam's idea to go outside. As they walked across the playground, Liam saw in the corner of his eye a group of older years laughing at the two of them and making jokes. He tried to listen, but the only word he picked up was "paki." Zayn had heard too, and he clenched his jaw before carrying on walking.
