Jake's P.O.V.

"Are you okay" the girl asked before standing up.

I nodded, still staring at her. I probably looked like such a creeper.

"Are you?" I questioned, referring to the bruise on her face. I wanted to reach out and touch it, but I refrained from coming off as a complete weirdo.

She nodded, looking down at her shoes.

I checked my phone seeing that we only had about 30 minutes left of school.

"I'm Jake" I introduced as she began to walk off.

"I'm Ali"

"What was that about back there?" I asked.

"Clayton has been trying to get with me since freshman year. I just never thought he would take it that far"

I almost growled thinking of what happened back there.

"So Ali are you a..." I trailed off not really sure if I should go there. I sniffed the air, but her scent didn't smell like a wolf. It smelt like vanilla.

"A wolf? Yes" she said, answering the question for me.

"Are you going back to class?" I asked.

"No, I'm exhausted. I'm going home"

"Do you need a ride?"

"While it sounds better than walking, Its not exactly safe getting a ride home from a stranger" she sent me a teasing smile.

"I'm not a stranger though, I'm Jake" I said with a smirk.

"Because that is so reassuring" She let out a laugh before shaking her head.

"So..." I trailed off as we snuck past the front gates of the school.

"Sure, anything is better than walking or taking the bus" she said following me over to my car.

She gave me directions to her house. We drove quietly, with the radio playing softly in the background.

"So why'd you move here?" She asked, breaking the silence.

"I moved here with my best friend Dawn. We went to the same boarding school. " I explained.

"What about your family?" She asked.

"They passed away a few years ago"

"I'm sorry," she said looking out the window.

"It's fine. Who do you live with?"

"My Dad and little brother."

I didn't ask anymore questions. The rest of the drive was spent in a comfortable silence with her quietly humming to the song playing on the radio.

When I pulled into her driveway, I felt disappointed that I didn't get to spend anymore time with her. She lived in a nice, white two story house with a wrap-around porch.

"Would you like to come in for a little while?"she said.

I nodded and followed her to the front door.

She took a key out of her pocket before unlocking the door.

The house was eerily quiet. I followed her up the stairs and into her room. I then took a seat on a huge, black comfy looking chair. She sat at the desk across the room.

I glanced around her room. I was very curious to know more about this girl I believe is my mate. I just couldn't believe the moon goddess had possibly given me another one. I also didn't know if she felt that pull to me.

I looked over to see her staring at me intently. The bruise on her face had already started to turn a yellow due to the wolf healing.

"What?" I asked. She just shook her head before turning to look out the window.

"I just wasn't expecting you to show up now. I still have some things I need to figure out" She said.

I laughed thinking about Dawn. "You're telling me. So what do we do?"

"I'm going to figure out what to do and you do the same. In the meantime, we can be friends. Right?" She asked.

"Right. So where's your dad?"

"He's at work. He's a cop"she answered.

"Great" I said sarcastically. She looked at me before laughing. We sat and talked for what felt like forever. I looked down at my phone to see it was already six.

"Well my little brother should be home soon from soccer practice and I don't exactly feel like explaining why I invited some random stranger in my house. Lord knows what my dad would do if he found out I met my mate"

I nodded, standing up. She then handed me her phone and I put my number in.

"Call me when you figure things out. Maybe I'll see you around school and we can hang out sometime"

"Okay, I will."

I left her house in a rush. I don't know what I was going to do yet. All I know is I had to tell Dawn tomorrow before things got any more complicated.

When I got to Dawn's house, I went inside and laid on my bed. I laid there for what felt like hours before getting up and taking a shower. I thought about going to tell her now, but I was sure she was probably already in bed.

I walked to the kitchen where I fixed myself a glass of water. As soon as I took a drink, the door burst open and Dawn stumbled in with a smile on her face.

"Hey I thought you were upstairs. Where have you been?"

"Jake! You would not believe what happened! That asshole Trey locked me in my locker."

"He's going to get his ass beat tomorrow. He already laid his hands on my mate and now he is messing with my sister. He crossed the line"Jet said, storming into the room.

"Well if you don't get to him first, he's going to deal with me"Dawn said with a smile.
