Kendall waited in line to pay for the milk so she could go home and enjoy her coffee in peace after the nightmare she had last night. It seemed so real and she couldn't forget about the way Rex looked at her. She was snapped back into reality when the cashier said
"Um miss...you're next in line."
Kendall paid for the milk and left the store, hurrying so she could finally drink her coffee. She had walked to the store since it was only about 20 minutes away. She walked down an alley as a shortcut when she was pushed against the brick wall, dropping the bag with the milk and having a knife held to her throat. She attempted to scream but the masked man with the knife threatened
"If you say one word, I will slice your throat open!"
Kendall began to shake in fear as the man began unbuttoning her plaid shirt. A single tear ran down her cheek. All of a sudden, the man stopped and a loud thud was hear. Kendall opened her eyes and saw that a tall brunette boy had sucker punched the man and the man was lying on the ground. She immediately buttoned up her shirt and said
"Oh my gosh, thank you."
The boy turned to Kendall and picked up the bag and handed it to her, replying with,
"No problem. I'm Hunter, I just moved here."
Kendall put her hair behind her ear and said
"I'm Kendall. I have to go."
She began walking off the way she was going and started getting butterflies. He was a cute guy and no cute guy had ever talked to her. Also probably because he saved her life. Hunter followed behind her and said
"Wait can I have your number?"
Kendall stopped and turned with a small smile on her expression. She told him her number and then began walking home while Hunter went the other way. As Kendall walked she realized the conversation they had and what happened wasn't as long as she thought it was.
**********
Kendall opened the door and kicked her shoes as she hurried to the kitchen to enjoy her warm drink. Cara was doing the dishes as Rex sat down by her legs facing the counter next to the sink. He turned his head and his tail began wagging a mile a minute. He got up and ran over to Kendall, rearing up and down on his hind legs as she attempted to poor the milk into her coffee. Kendall sat at the table and said, voice calming and normal,
"So I met this guy today."
Cara immediately turned off the the water and put her head on her elbow on the other side of the table. Her golden brownish blinked a few times as said
"Tell me all the details girl! This is the first boy who has talked to you since last year."
Kendall smirked slightly and said
"His name is Hunter and he's new around here. I got his number also. I don't rea-"
She was cut off by Cara squealing and jumping up and down in excitement. Cara ran around the table and hugged Kendall with all her strength and Kendall yelled, laughing at the same time,
"CAN'T..... BREATH!!"
Cara released her and said
"I'm sorry I'm just really really happy for you! Ever since we moved into the sane place, you haven't had a boyfriend or anything!"
Kendall smiled and nodded, remembering all the times that Cara's boyfriend, Luke, had come over to hang out with them. Then again Luke was Kendall's older brother and it was awkward for the first few weeks so they never really hung out altogether.
Kendall stirred her coffee a little as Cara tossed bacon on the skillet, the sizzling and popping food making a mouth watering aroma fill the room. Kendall looked up from her book that she was reading and watched Rex drool from the smell of food. Kendall laughed and said
"Looks like someone else is hungry!"
Cara and Kendall laughed and was silenced by a knock at the door. Kendall made a questioning look at Cara and Cara shrugged and turned back to cooking. Kendall got up from her and went to the door. Rex followed, hair standing up and growling deeply and dangerously. She opened the door and was met by a tall black haired boy with dark colored eyes and wearing all black. Kendall held Rex back as he began barking and barring his teeth savagely. The guy stood still and asked, almost monotone,
"Is Caraline Weston here? I must speak to her. Privately."
Kendall nodded and yelled, holding the dog back as he barred his teeth and growled continuously,
"Cara, there's a guy at the door for you!"
Cara walked into the hall halfway and then froze in place seeing the person at the door. Kendall looked at her with a concerned look, questioning herself if she should have opened the door, and Cara continued slowly down the hall. They guy nodded once and said
"Caraline, we need to talk. Ruben is not very happy with you."
Kendall pulled Rex back again as he attempted to lunge at the guy and Cara nodded to Kendall. She walked out of the door and closed the front door behind her. Kendall put her ear against the door and heard them speaking but it was all muffled. Rex was released since the door was closed and he began pacing by the door. Cara began to talk with a harsh tone but the strange boy had was monotone mostly. The last thing that Kendall heard, before the guy walked off the porch and disappeared into his black truck was Cara saying,
"There is no way I'm going back there with those beasts! I'm happy where I am and nothing can change that!"
Cara opened the door and she stormed into the house, eyes no longer golden brown but now bright green. Rex followed after her as she went back to making food, whimpering slightly as he followed behind. Kendall sat back at the table and asked
"Who was that? I've never seen him before."
Cara finished the last of the bacon and put the pan in the sink. She seemed to ignore the question for a few minutes until she sighed as she put both hands on the counter, leaning on it as she released a dreadful sigh. Cara shook her head and said
"No one. Just a guy that I work with."
"Who's Ruben and why isnt he happy with you?", Kendall asked a little confused.
Cara turned to her, her eyes an even brighter green, and said
"Just...my boss..that's it."
Kendall made an unsure look and shrugged. Cara never acted like this and it kind of made her worry. Kendall frowned slightly as Cara took her plate and walked to her room, shutting Rex and Kendall out.
