Midnight Starlight

Chapter 4

    Kendall fluttered her eyes open slowly and saw she was laying on a dark bed. She saw it was a mix of dark maroon and brown. The room had several long windows and there were beds on the other side of the room as well. The walls were a sort of maroon color and the only light source were from the lamps by the side of the beds. She sat up and looked around when a door on her left opened. Two men walked in, one guy, no where over the age of twenty, had brown hair with blue eyes and black jeans with a dark grey shirt and the other man, a few inches taller, had blonde hair and green eyes with a blue plaid shirt and blue jeans on. They both had a muscular build but the blonde one seemed more of a leader than the brunette one. The brunette smiled and said, voice sounding like Rex's,

"Well look who's up finally. This is Kendall, Derek. She's the early shifter."

    The man with the blonde hair smiled slightly and said, voice rough but gentle in a way,

"Good to see you. I was expecting to see you in later years but now that the demons have started looking for you, here we are now. You should be happy that Rex here and Caraline were able to bring you here in time."

    Kendall smiled back and asked

" I am. Where am I though? It seems so familiar but I've never been here."

    Rex looked at Derek and Derek made a sort of surprised expression at him. Derek looked back at Kendall and said

"This is the safehouse for Lycanthropes or Lycans for short. We have many wolves staying here since their fear of mortals seeing their true form over takes them. Only few can live in their own places. Like Rex and Cara. They have rooms here but they hardly stay in them."

    Kendall looked at Rex, realizing her beloved dog, that she had known since she was nine, was a wolf that had protected her for as long as she could remember. He was her best friend and she had a special bond with him. It seemed like nothing had changed now he was in human form. She blinked a few times at Rex and asked

"You've protected me all these years and I didn't know you could be human too."

    Rex nodded and said

"I was only your age when we met. I pretended to be a stray and your parents took me in. That's where you and I instantly became best friends. By the way, the reason Cara was talking to that man dressed in black, it was one of the demon and human mixes. Cara is a wolf and demon mix but mostly a wolf. That man wanted to have Cara on their side again since she was at one point in time but one thing led to another and she ended up with the pack, finding there was no way for her to kill any of her wolf kind. Demons on the other hand, she can wipe put easily."

    Kendall blinked realizing everything was real and not just a dream. Her best friends were wolves, demons were after her, and she was a wolf as well. Everything was coming onto her so fast but she took it all in okay, as if it was normal. She breathed in deeply and asked

"If I am a werewo-er I mean a Lycan- why haven't I changed at all?"

    Derek smiled slightly and said

"Because you are only 75 percent, your father being most of that reason. You will change after I take you to Rubert, the witchdoctor. He is a wolf witchdoctor, to be exact, and his mate, Zora will also be able to help. He has a spell that will make your wolf inside be older which means you'll be able to change in and out of wolf form at any time."

    With that, Rex went to the side of the bed wear Kendall sat up at and helped her up. He put her arm around his shoulders and they walked carefully after Derek. The went down a hall with five doors on each side, names on the doors. Derek looked over his shoulder slightly and said,

"This is where the male and female members of the pack with no mates stay. The couples in the pack stay upstairs."

    As they passed a door, that Kendall had happened to look at, she read the name Rex on it. Kendall looked at Rex and said

"You don't have a mate?"

    Rex shook his head and they continued to walk until they can into a big room. It had a maroon carpet with yellow paisley markings on it. It had three maroon couches and four maroon leather chairs. A black flat screen hung on the wall and a coffee table lay in the middle of all the furniture. There was a hall next to the hall they came out of and they went through it. At the end of the hall was a door that had the name Rubert & Zora. Derek knocked on it and a woman with long pure white silky hair and grey, almost white,  cat like eyes with black eyeliner around them answered with a smile. She scanned over the three and said

"What a very lovely girl. Is she the one everyone has been speaking of?"

    Everyone knew about her? Great. That's lovely. Derek nodded and said

"Yes, she needs to see Rubert."

Zora smiled and looked at Kendall, her greyish cat eyes scanning her. She turned and welcomed the three in her place. There was an odd smell in the air which was normal for the couple since their potions and other items had different smells mixed in one. Kendall looked around and saw it looked like a normal place other than a dark room they were led to. A long table in the middle of the room had beakers, jars and other glass bottle like items. There were four shelves in the whole room and they had different liquids and occasional solids. A man with a lab coat and glasses stood at the table mixing potion with potion, testing for a new spell. He had white hair and a little bit of white hair on his face. He looked up from mixing and smiled as he saw his mate, pack leader, friend, and stranger enter the room. He placed the things down and said

"Ah hello there! I'm Rubert. You must be Kendall, I've heard so much about you. I have the spell right here." He walked over to one of the shelves and grabbed a small round bottle with a sort of puke green colored liquid in it. He walked over to the four visitors and said

"Here my dear, drink this and you'll change when you enter out of here."

Kendall took the drink with her free hand and sniffed it slightly. She scrunched her noise in disgust at the spoiled milk smell and drank it fast so she wouldn't taste it. It actually didn't really taste that bad to her. She was able to stand on her own now and she smiled at Rubert. She thanked him, as well as the two boys did, and they left the room. Derek looked at Kendall and said

"Come with me, Kendall, so you can change into wolf form."

    Kendall looked at Rex and he gave her a slight nod with a smile. She looked back at Derek and followed after him.
