"you want alchemy right out of me" i sing, my fingers occupied by playing the piano sat in front of me. i've never been that confident in my music, i've kept it all pretty private. i write and play music quite a lot, it's almost the only thing that i do. ever since ive fallen into this deep black hole called depression, i've stayed at home more than usual, which gives me the opportunity to write and play quite a lot. when i'm not playing, ill either be laying in bed staring at the ceiling or sleeping.
before you ask, no, i don't have a girlfriend. my best friend, kyle, is friends with lots of girls and he's tried to set me up many times, but no matter how hard i try i can't bring myself to actually like any of them. sure, they're good people, but i can't find any interest in them whatsoever.
incoming call... kyle
"what do you want this time kyle?"
"i found your perfect match"
"mhmm, you've said that with every girl you set me up with and what happened?"
"no listen, you'll really like her. her name's sophie and she's an actual angel. she's super small. i want you to at least meet her once to get a good idea of who she is before you jump to conclusions."
"fine, it can't be too bad"
"i don't know how i'm gonna get you two to talk to each other, since both of you are insanely shy"
"hey, i'm not that shy."
"yeah, and i don't have a beard"
"shut up"
"i'll call her up and see when she's available, i'll text you the details later. bye"
"bye"
the line goes silent.
my heart starts beating faster than usual in my chest. i'm more nervous about meeting her than i was for any of the others. what if she doesn't like me? what if we don't even talk because we're both shy?
we haven't even met and i'm already worried that she doesn't like me.

kyle: she said that holly's tomorrow at 6 is good with her, are you okay with that?
dan: sure
kyle: i also gave her your number so that you two can talk before
dan: alright, thanks

unknown: hey, is this dan?
dan: sure is, this must be sophie
sophie: correct!
dan: you don't seem that shy,,
sophie: over text i'm not, but over calls or in real life i'm the shyest person there is
dan: that's how i am too, don't worry
sophie: how has your day been so far?
dan: eh, alright i guess. i've been writing and playing music all day so i haven't really done much. how about yours?
sophie: mine's been okay. not the best but what can i do y'know
dan: the story of my life
sophie: mine too
sophie: my mom needs me right now, i'll talk to you later i hope
dan: definitely! x
i start to call kyle and tell him about how well we're getting along, but i decide against it. all he's going to do is tease me and that's not going to make my nervousness any better.
later that night, i fall asleep with a smile on my face for once. and for the first time i'm actually excited for the day ahead.
