A TRILOGY FOR MANCHESTER // PART I

the cowardly bullet

rips through flesh &

bone as if it were

nothing.

shrapnel is not

drawn more to atheist blood

than muslim,

the christian soul is no

more protected from its

deadly slice than a jew's.

our skin is no armour.

regardless of it's darkness

or it's light

it is paper crumpled by steel.

an enemy shared as good a reason

as any to love,

to stop

& stand together

against the hands that wield that hateful sword.

a/n - in the wake of the events in manchester yesterday i have been inspired to write. these three poems are not only to do with the events here in the uk but terrorism in general, hate, equality, standing together & those events that the media have left behind. my heart is with everyone - no matter their nationality, ethnicity, religion or sexuality - who is affected by hateful & unjustified acts of violence, no matter where they occur around the world.
