I watched Zany turn around and start to head in the direction of the next course, my eyes following him. I didn't believe what he had told me just now, and I kept on thinking of what may occur during this as I stood up from my place and began to follow him. The track for the relay race wasn't too far from where we just were, or so I thought, but when you're walking with someone who is usually extremely talkative and loud in complete silence, the journey felt like hours. It was unusual to hear nothing from someone like Zany, but eventually he said something after the two handfuls of dead air between us.
"You sit here for the time being." he told me, pointing down at the ground and taking his backpack off, "I'll do the dirty work."
'Dirty work' I thought to myself, 'Is that what you're going to call a relay race, now?'. I watched as he smiled at me, hurrying over to the starting line of the race track. I sat next to the beanie's bag, my hand digging into my own for my water bottle, and I watched as he grabbed hold of the dynamite, his spare hand lighting a match ready for the race prepared. I felt my teeth bite my lip again in worry as Bard walked over with his gun again, his arm raising it into the sky in preparation.
"Are all the racers ready?" he asked for the second time today. I saw Zany and the other racers nod at him, my worry still getting the best of me. I took a sip of my water as Bard continued.
"On your marks..." he said, finger on trigger.
"Get set..." the racers lit their dynamite.
"And...GO!" the race was on once a bullet was shot out of his gun. The racers were like lightning compared to Zany, and I could tell he was still quite exhausted from the last event. I noticed a wheeze heave itself out of his throat as he stopped, the other racers giving their pieces of dynamite to their partners. Dingy, his partner for the lap, was getting impatient; it was obvious.
'Come on, Zany...' my mind mumbled through to me, 'You can't give up now...'. However, my thoughts got him nowhere; he had still completely lost his confidence. I had no choice: I jumped up onto my feet and gave my mouth a roof to create more of an echo as I shouted. "Come on, Zany!" I yelled, "You can do this! Don't give up; you can win!". The small pink ball perked up and looked up me, a look of confidence returning on his face as he looked back at the dynamite. He ran again, faster than his beginning. I smiled as he tossed the explosive at the taller, blue being in front of him. Dingy caught it just in time and raced towards the finish line, although it was unlucky for him as the dynamite had exploded - just as he was about to step across the finish line. I cringed at the bloody remains of him, but was soon stopped as I was attacked by a fierce hug from the same magenta beanie I had cheered for. My feelings for the being had forced me to hug back, despite the lung problems I may have after he lets go.
"Thank you, Loopy!" he cried out as he hugged me tighter, "Your magic gave my confidence back~! I'd probably be dead right now if it weren't for you!"
"I just cheered for you, besides, you would've respawned anyway." I chuckled out through breaths. Zany giggled.
"Yeah, but it would've added on to the other ten hundred times I've died!" the two of us laughed as he said that, the pinky-purple ball soon calming down, "But it's true! You technically saved me!" he then let go and began to bow before me as if I was a king to a peasant, "I'll do anything for you!"
I chuckled, "Well, how about we get some lunch together, and have a break from these crazy courses?"
