The scene playing before my eyes is scary and most definitely unexpected! Questions swirl through my mind on how Blake and Stephen even know eachtoher. They come from separate towns, hundreds of miles away from one another.
Stephen pushes Blake past me by the shoulders and slams his back against my apartment door. I am stuck there, frozen like a statue.
When Stephen’s fist collides with Blake’s small nose, I find my way back to reality.
“Stephen!” I scream and rush to Blake’s aid. “Get off of him!” I pull at Stephen’s strong arms, but it is no use. My curvy frame is nothing compared to Stephen’s bulky body and strong arms.
The cracking sound I hear when Blake’s large fist connects with Stephen’s jaw, makes my insides turn. It is an awful sound, and I am sure both of them have broken body parts.
“You son of a bitch!” I don’t know who’s voice shouted the profanities through all the punches. “I am going to kill you!” I am almost positive that is Stephen’s deep voice.
Blake fumbles over and falls to the ground. Stephen pulls him up by the collar, throwing more punches into Blake’s poor face. I should be helping Blake, I really should, but I am just standing here, lost.
“Kate!” Blake’s voice slices through the sounds whirling about, and then I look up. Stephen has stopped punching Blake and they are both standing, no. They’re huddled over breathing heavy. Blake spits blood and I cringe at the sight.
“How...um…What?” I finally speak, but it is not understandable. I have so many questions for the both of them, but once again, words are not in my favor.
“He fucking raped my sister!” Stephen spat and my eyes go wide.
Was this the girl Blake hurt? No! That’s not possible, Stephen is confused.
“I am sure that’s not true. Yo-“ I tell him, then Blake interrupts me again. He looks sad, full of regret even. “Kate, that’s the guy.” What guy? “Beer bottle guy.” he answers my thoughts.
“Oh,” This is unreal. I don’t know how many more surprises I can receive, before I really do lose my mind. “Stephen, Blake didn’t rape your sister. Yes, he touched her, but you came in and stopped it.” I am trying to remember everything Blake told me. He did not rape her I knew that. At least I thought I did.
“You call a drunk girl screaming ‘stop’ ‘no’ and naked, with a guy inside of her, consensual sex? No Kate, that is fucking rape! My sister went through hell after what he did to her!” I am completely raged that Blake lied about this and I am sad for Blake’s sister. I am ashamed that I even converse with the man that did such a cruel thing to her.
“I’m sorry, I had no idea.” I need to apologize to Stephen for acting that way. I was a bitch, that thought I had all the facts, when I didn’t.
“Are you fucking kidding me?” Blake seethes. “He just beat the shit out of your best friend and you’re apologizing to him?”
“Yes, I am. You assaulted his sister! You lied once again to me, and I am over it! I trusted you and I am glad you trusted me enough with all your secrets, bu-“ I look at his eyes and step a little closer.
His goddamn eyes are pinned. I pull up his flannel sleeve, and there is a new prick mark from a needle.
“You’re high right now aren’t you?” My tone is calm, well as calm as I can manage. He does not answer. “Aren’t you?” I bellowed out.
“DAMN,” He exasperated slowly. His eyes were glazed and movements slow. I was surprised I didn’t detect this when I first saw him. It was probably, the shock of him even showing up, on top of that, his fighting with Stephen.
I was worried about Blake and his actions. I don’t want to believe that he would go back to this place again, but who says he ever stopped?
“Seriously Kate,” Blake laughs at his uneasy self. “You need to pick one of us.” I know he has now idea what he is saying, because he is completely trashed. “I am your best friend, and this guy wait who is he?” I am confused and lost right now. “Never mind, pick me or him.
I laugh to myself at how ridiculous Blake sounds. I am not picking either one of them. I am sure Stephen can handle himself, he isn’t as injured or bruised as Blake.
“Stephen, I think,” I began to speak and look at Blake. He has the smirk etched on his face, the same smirk my dad always has. Something inside of my body just snapped! “you should come inside and get cleaned up.”
Hi! I am sorry about my rant earlier. I am just so upset at how some people can be so cruel. To everyone who reads my book and votes for it, THANK YOU! You guys give me the motivation to update everyday.
