"Okay." I mutter and take the blue helmet from Stefan's hands. "This is only for you." I tell him. It really is only for him. I am not a fan of things that could possibly kill me. That's mostly everything in the world, so.
"Good, think of this as a new experience." He says with vigor. Everything this man says seems to get to me. In a good way though. I came to Fairview for a new experiences, new beginnings, and I am hoping and praying that Stefan is one of them.
"New experiences." I smile as Stefan climbs onto the death trap. I probably shouldn't call it that. "Get on." Stefan demands and I obey. I swing my leg over the seat and sit myself down. He turns the motorcycle on, and the engine comes alive.
"Wrap your arms around me." Stephan commands and my actions do just that. I hesitantly wraps my arms around his hard frame. He maneuvers the bike out of the parking space and starts down the little street.
The wind blowing through my hair feels nice. I feel free and safe. Ironic, because I am on a death trap.
"You doing okay?" He shouts at me. "Yes! I feel so alive!" I tell him. I did not mean to tell him that, but I am being honest. I really feel alive. I lift my arms up and let the wind blow the hair out of my face. He picks up the speed and I smile instantly. "This is great." I say to him. I see him smiling in the mirror. It's wide and bright. I really like that smile.
We come to a stop and I put my arms back down. I take a look around and see that we are downtown. The little shops here sell the most obscure things. I have been down to the music shop and book store.
Music was always my escape and still is. My dad would scream profanities at me, and I would turn the volume louder. The music would drain his cold voice out.
Books were my way of going into a new world. I wouldn't have to be Kate Winslet- the drunk's daughter. I was a new person and I was happy and joyful.
It seems that I don't need to pretend to be happy when I am around Stefan, I just am.
"Let me park and we can start this date. Bare with me, I am not a big romantic." Stefan commented. I just nodded and waited till we were stopped. I didn't want to get off this motorcycle.
He quickly parked the bike in a parking spot. I took the helmet he let me use and got off the bike. He looked back at me and stared at me. There was no emotion in his face, just a blank stare. "Stefan?" He kept staring.
Finally, he spoke up and I swear my knees buckled. "You're just so damn beautiful." He exclaimed. I had no words, it was me who stared this time. No man, no. No, Person has ever said something so short but so deeply meaningful before. "Thank you." I whispered.
Stefan got off the bike and took the helmet out of my tan hands. He set it on the seat and turned around. This is the first time I have gotten a good look at him today. He is wearing dark washed jeans, a tight white shirt, and a black leather jacket. And, he looks mighty handsome.
His tall figure walks over to me and he grabs my hand. Its such a simple touch, but it lights flames inside of me. It's a furnace roaring in me. I look up at him just as his eyes shoot down to mine and we both smile.
"So, tell me about yourself." I tell Stefan. I want to know more about the man that I fancy so much.
He clears his throat and begins telling me about his life. "Well, I grew up in Florida. It's a small town called Glendale, kind of like Fairview. Anyways, it was just my sister, mom, and I growing up. My dad died when I was four, Allison was two at the time. He died in a car accident. My mom grieved for a long time. It wasn't his death that really tore my mom apart," I give him a questionable look.
"Two people died in the accident," I give his hand a small squeeze for reassurance. "My dad's mistress was in the car. It was my moms best friend." A slight pinch of pain appears in his eyes, but quickly disappears. "That's awful. I'm sorry."
What an awful thing to do to someone. I couldn't imagine doing that to someone I cared for, especially to my children. "Tell me about it." He then laughs, but continues his story. "My mom is an amazing mom though. She is the nicest woman I have ever met and one day, I want someone like her."
"Now tell me about you." I raise my eyebrows at him and point at myself. "There isn't much to tell about me." Even if I was to tell Stefan about my past, it would have him running for the hills. 'My mom left her baby with her alcoholic husband, and the dad is a total ass, who couldn't care what goes on in her life' Yeah, I wont be saying that.
I feel bad though. Stefan just told me such significant details and he barely knows me.
"Okay, lets make a deal." he looks at me and licks his lips. "Whats the deal?" I question.
"I will buy you dinner and ice cream then you have to tell me everything there is to know about Kate Winslet."
"Okay deal." Even though I have only known Stefan a few weeks, it feels like forever, and I feel like I can trust him.
"Good! What do you like? There's a little Thai place up the street."
I love Thai! Blake and I always ate Thai when we did a study session. I frown to myself when I think about Blake. Stefan seems to notice my frown, "Hey, what's wrong?" He runs his thumb over the back of my hand soothingly.
"Nothing. Thai sounds great." I force a smile and try to get Blake's bloody face out of my mind.
