The siren rang aboard the skyguard outpost, as warning lights flashed red and yellow. I jolted awake, and ran to my console, booting it's access to the station network, and scanning local subspace.

This was bad, three illiteran hives, larger than usual, large enough to be capitalship category. They were closing fast. As i closed the sensor console, a comm message pinged into the inbox, from the fleet. I smiled, the corners of my mouth turning upwards slowly. The illiterans were carrion birds, we'd given every sign of being weak and un-suspecting.

As the hives approached the outpost, firing grappling lines to restrain the assorted craft docked there, a huge fleet of l'leftan warships exited jump space, surrounding them from above and below.  Commanding all of these gleaming white craft, was the Skyguard capitalship, Wings of harmony, Valiant class. Wings of harmony's main NOVA Beams glowed orange, and discharged towards the first hive, as the fleets began to move, fighters and corvettes chasing eachother around, various cruisers weaving around the battlefield, firing missiles and torpedoes, Battleships and battlecruisers performing anti fighter duty, and the destroyers, wreaking havoc upon all that they saw, their cannons and point defence grids decimating any ship stupid enough to venture within their line of sight.

The lead hive continued to drift towards the outpost, it's jaws mashing open and closed, as it tried to bite at the long hull of the slender white and blue station.

The hive finally inched forwards, and as it swung it's neck to bite the station in two, it's jaws flew apart, and a bright blue explosion lit the sky, as it's skull shattered into pieces. A serethian battleship flew out of the wreckage, her electromagnetic beams glowing blue, crackling with millions of volts.

A huge host of serethian ships dropped into the local area, aligning themselves with the l'leftan fleet, and proceeding to join the fight.

I looked up from my command chair aboard  Wings of harmony. The new Fury class destroyer was functioning beyond my expectations, more of a direct combat ship than the venture carrier-destroyer, the new class was tearing fellow destroyers and warships to pieces, with her forward mounted Barrage class NOVA cannons, and her twin NOVA Devastators glowing orange in the light of the battlefield.

One more capitalhive burst into pieces, it's swarm scattering outwards from it's innards, as it's mandibles clacked together in a slack-jawed grimace of death. The remaining hive began to turn, spraying acid shells at any ships approaching it, and pushing it's engines beyond the red line. The Remaining allied fleet closed in, the destroyers throwing up a flak screen to destroy incoming projectiles. The illiteran hive began to accelerate, outpacing it's pursuers. As it seemed hopeless to catch it, blasts of green light struck it in the eyes, embedding into it's skull. A small ship, appearing to be made of rock and crystals, closed in, ripping into the hive's skull with grappling hooks and phaser beams. The newcomer left the dying hive, firing a salvo into it's brain, and drifted towards the fleet, Disarming it's weapons and shielding. At this range, i could make out more details. The hull was indeed made out of rock, but it seemed almost fluid, with finely cut coloured crystals set into it's surface. 'Open the main hangar, lets see who our guests are' i instructed the helmsman, and watched as the new ship slid under our nose, towards the main hangar on the underside of the hull.

Five minutes later, i arrived down at hangar one, slighly out of breath from the long run through the corridors. I was greeted by an unusual sight, the new ship almost seemed alive, with liquid magma running under it's hull, and even some exposed to open air at the front and back. Three organisms exited the front of the craft, humanoid in shape, but vastly different in appearance. The first was large and bulky, appearing to be constructed of granite, rough edged at the roughly defined limbs, the second one appeared to be iron and basalt, it's eyes glowing red at the magma running through it's veins. The third one appeared even stranger, fully black, and gleaming. All three had crystals embedded into their arms, one large one on each hand sharpened into a blade. the one appearing to be iron and basalt strode towards me, it's expression in a crude approximation of curiousity. It reached out it's hand, the the large crystal on it's wrist glowed briefly, and melted back into it's body, the surface closing seamlessly over the hole.

I turned on the translator, and spoke. 'Hello fellow creatures, I am Atatra Seretan of the l'leftan Skyguard, would you introduce yourselves?'

In a rough voice, the lead one spoke back, 'Hello Atatra Seretan, We have Heard of you from the many races that we have met, they speak of those who light up the sky, they speak of the shining darkness, of the skyguard. We are the krankorians, The living earth.'
