Chapter 4

Rico saw Shadow licking Rouge's cheek and got really angry and jealous. Rico growled and jumped at the black wolf. Shadow, who hadn't noticed the furious alpha, got tackled to the ground by the white wolf and slid a few feet before he finally stopped. "Rico?" Rouge asked surprised as she saw her lover attacking Shadow. "Leave now!" Rico commanded but instead doing what Rico told him, Shadow glared at Rico. "Why should I leave my territory?" Shadow asked angrily as he stood up. Rico leaped at Shadow again but Shadow easily dodged Rico's attack and rammed Rico on the ground. Rico growled and got up again. He jumped at Shadow a third time. Rico attempted to gash Shadow's throat again but Shadow jumped to the side and bit down on Rico's hip with crushing force making Rico yelp in pain but Shadow wasn't going to let go of him anytime soon. That's when Rico noticed Shadow's still healing wounds from the mountain lion. Rico bit down on Shadow's shoulder causing the black wolf to howl in pain, letting go of  Rico's hip. "Rico! Shadow! Stop this!" Rouge yelled and Shadow looked at her and stopped what he was doing. Rico however wasn't going to stop and jumped on Shadow's back and tore at his shoulder again. "Rico stop!" Rouge said but was to afraid to go between the two fighting male wolves. Shadow stood on his hind legs and let him self fell on his back to slam Rico into the ground. Shadow, now greatly injured, forced himself to rise again as well as Rico. Both jumped at each other at the same time. Shadow tore a gash in Rico's neck while Rico slashed Shadow's face, creating a deep bloody gash across his right eye. Both wolves let go from each other before they jumped at their opponent again biting and clawing at each other. Shadow jumped at Rico's back and as Shadow did before, Rico stood on his hind legs and fell on his back. But what Rico didn't noticed was that they were on the edge of a hill and both wolves were rolling down the hill towards the cliffs edge near a water fall. Rico and Shadow noticed the cliff and digged their claws into the earth. Rico couldn't come to a halt and slid off of the cliff and fall with a loud splash into the river below. He flung his paws in an attempt to keep his head above the water and swam to the edge of the river. Rico soon felt sandy dirt beneath his paws and pulled himself out of the water. He then laid down on his stomach and he cough up the water he had swallowed. Rico looked to the top of the cliff seeing Shadow still struggling to pull himself up. Shadow was able to get to a stop before he fall down but his back paws slide off the edge and Shadow tried his best to not fall off the cliff which was very difficult because of his aching shoulder. 

After seeing the two male wolves rolling down the hill Rouge quickly followed and saw Rico falling down the cliff. Shadow digged his nails into the earth and he threw all his weight forward to pull himself up the cliff. Rouge ran to his side and grabbed Shadow by the scruff of his neck to pull him up.  As Shadow pulled his hind legs to the top ground he collapsed and was panting heavily from exhaustion. "Thanks." Shadow said in a whisper and Rouge knelt down next to Shadow and proceeded to lick the blood off of his face. Rico saw Rouge pulling Shadow up and tears were forming in his eyes. He pulled himself to his feet and started limping to his den. 

Rouge helped Shadow to his feet and Shadow pulled his left paw up to avoid any pressure on his wounded shoulder. "I'm so sorry." Rouge said as she let Shadow lean some of his wight on her. "It wasn't your fault." Shadow replied and very slowly walked/limped back to his den, Rouge still on his side. "Don't you want to go back to your pack?" Shadow asked, seeing Rouge still walking beside him. "No. You're injured and wouldn't survive all by yourself in this state." Rouge said. "But what's with Rico and your pack? He's still your mate." Shadow said slightly disappointed. "I don't want him anymore. He's so different from you and I think I love you Shadow." Rouge said and Shadow stopped, looking surprised at the white wolf. "You-you love me?" Shadow asked and Rouge nodded a bit afraid that Shadow won't love her back. "I love you too." Shadow said and snuggled with Rouge. Rouge smiled and licked Shadow's cheek. After a few minutes they slowly went back to Shadow's den and cuddled together for warmth, nuzzling into each others necks as the night before.

"Shadow, that's all your fault. Because of you my love left me." Rico cried out as he walked back to his den. "I'll make you pay for what you've done." Rico thought and ran back to his den where his pack was already waiting for him. Sonic was the first seeing Rico dashing up the hill. "Guys Rico is back." Sonic said as he stood up. Rico stopped in front of them, panting hard and collapsed on the ground in front of his pack. "Rico?" Tails cried out in surprise. "What happened to you?" Knuckles asked as he saw the wound on Rico's hip. "That black wolf, Shadow, ... he attacked me as I wanted to take Rouge with me." Rico growled. "What?" everyone said at the same moment. "Why would he do that?" Amy asked. "He wants Rouge to be his mate and didn't let her go. He attacked me when I tried to get her back." Rico lied and his pack gasped. "We have to get her back." Blaze said. "But we should wait until you're fully rested." Silver said and helped his alpha to his feet as everyone nodded in agreement. They made their way into the den and went to sleep. "Watch out Shadow, I'm going to get Rouge back and you'll die." Rico thought and smiled evilly.
