"millie-I can't-breath", I yelled laughing hysterically as I clutched my stomach, rolling onto my side.

her gentle hand grazed over my elbow as she laughed along side me, the bright green grass intertwining itself in her short brown hair.

"finn", she softly chuckled, reaching up and pointing to the leafs above us, "look, right there."

I turned my head in the direction she was pointing. perched on a small branch, a little yellow bird sat.

millie smiled cheerfully as she looked up to the bird, moments before it flew away.

"finn", she softly spoke, turning towards me as her forehead leaned again mine.

"millie", I replied back, a smile forming on my lips.

"I wish we could stay here forever", her eyes seemed to trace over every aspect of my face she she smoothed my hair over.

"me too millie, but summers don't last forever", I sighed, "we have to go back to school sometime."

millie looked into my eyes, holding her hand against my cheek she smiled, laughing as she turned onto her back.

"for a second there it looked like we were about to kiss", she laughed clutching her chest.

"imagine that", I chuckled softly, "best friends don't kiss each other."

millie and I have been best friends since I can remember, there were moments here and there where I thought we were more than friends. but she never felt the same.

sometimes I like to imagine what we could've been, if she felt the way I did about her. how her smile makes my heart flutter and her soft hands send chills down my spine.

but of course I'd never tell her that, in her eyes we're best friends. best friends who hold hands, have sleepovers, and go out to lunch together.

"oh great", she scoffs sitting up, her hands gripping the green grass, "look who's here."

"what are you talking about?", I ask sitting up, "I don't see anyone-"

millie grabs my head between her hands and turns me harshly to the left, "see them now?"

"oh", I lower my voice.

iris apatow. or as millie prefers, the worlds fakest bitch.

"look at her hair, no ones hair just looks like that naturally", millie groans.

"i think it looks nice", I smile, millie rolls her eyes at my statement.

"why can't you just agree with me for once that she's a bitch", millie sighs folding her arms at me.

"because she's not", I chuckle, "I don't know what you have against her, she's pretty nice when you get to know her."

"nice?", millie scoffs, "how could you find someone like that nice?"

"because she is, you've never even talked to her before", the mood between us suddenly changing, "if you want I'll call her over here and you can see for yourself."

"oh I bet you would love that wouldn't you", she rolls her eyes, "why don't I text romeo to join as as well if you're so set on making me be friends with iris."

"what is it with you and romeo, he's awful", I scoff as I stand up, branches hitting my head.

"that's exactly how I feel about iris", millie yells as she stands up.

"well if you like romeo so much, call him, see what I care", I tell throwing my hands up.

"maybe I will", millie yells back, her hands in tight fists against her hips.

"fine, I'll go talk to iris instead", i lower my voice, taking deep breaths in as millie looks me up and down, disgust written across her face.

"whatever wolfhard", she looks me up and down once more before storming off.

i watch her walk away.

the way she tugs at the holes in her jeans and how she folds her hair over her ears multiple times.

but what sticks out most, is that she hasn't looked back yet.

every time we fight, she always looks back and waves.

but she hasn't yet, and she only calls me wolfhard when I really piss her off.

"hi finn, you ok? i saw you and millie fighting and I wanted to-"

"it's nothing iris", I smile, brushing her question off, "what are you doing here?"

"what any teenage girl does during summer, looking for boys."
