We drove in an uncomfortable silence until I decided to break said. "So... It's Tad, huh?" I flinched. I did not use 'huh'.

"What do you mean?" Jacalyn was obviously confused.

"You like Tad, don't you?"

She sighed. "Yes, I like Tad. How'd you guess?"

"Your face was red when you got in the car." I grinned. "I won't tell. I promise."

"Well, there is a lot of things you know about me that needs 'not telling.'"

At this point, John started wailing. "Shoot!" I said. "He must need his diaper changed!" I pulled over to the side of the highway and put on the hazard lights.

Jacalyn stayed in the front as I grabbed John's diaper bag and unclipped him from his booster seat. I walked to the trunk of the car and opened it.

I lay John down on top of a blanket and proceeded to coo at him while I changed him. "It's alright, Johnny-boy. See? Lunette's right here." I finished and packed everything back up, including John.

When I got into the driver's seat, Jacalyn looked at me. "Is 'Johnny-boy' part of the reason that I had to come home?" she asked.

"Yes," I replied. "He's one third of the reason."

"You mean... Mom had TRIPLETS?!" I could tell that Jacalyn was kind of incredulous, 'kind of' being an understatement.

"Yes, yes she did."

"Then... Why did you bring only one? Why not all of them? Or none of them?"

I sighed. I wished that I didn't have to tell her in the car. "Because John is blind. Mom was thinking of giving him away, so he's mine. I have to treat him as a son."

Jacalyn stared at me, completely and totally shocked.
