chapter- 11

Ray's P.O.V

I was sitting on the park thinking about about mom. How could she do this to us? Then I notice something strange about the children who were playing in the park. They don't have any shadow! I looked at them more closely, how is this possible? There is so much of sunshine and they don't have their shadow? I stood up from my bench to check I have a shadow or not but yes, I have my shadow. "Looking for something?"said one boy who was playing in the park. He looked twelve or thirteen years. I bent my head to see if he has his shadow or not. No, he has no shadow. "We don't have shadows because we are dead " he said in a icy voice which had put a chill to my spine. "Dead" I repeated. "Are you playing pranks with me " I said angrily. But to my horror blood came out from his eyes and mouth and he grabbed my throat. I removed his hands from my throat. "You will die " he said and vanished . I looked at the other children they too vanished! I ran towards my house but on my path I met Lisa and Ryan looking quite scared. They were completely soaked with water. "What happened? " I asked. "Your mom turned in to a zombie and was trying to kill us "said Ryan breathing hard. "Someone assaulted mom"said Lisa. "Where she is now ?" I asked. "In our home"said Lisa looking at me closely. "What is the matter " "why you are looking at me like this ?" "Nothing " she said ."what happened to you both "I said looking at their wet clothes and then Ryan told me how he met Lisa in the river. "Who threw you to the river? " I said . "I don't know"she said quietly. "Maybe your mom " said Ryan. "She looked possessed by some spirit". "Ryan, you believe in ghosts and spirits "said Lisa making a face. "They do not exist " "But Lisa, your' s mom's behaviour and what about those blood stains on the wall ?" "Didn't it indicate that it is done by a ghost ?" "No, I don't think so "said Lisa. "Maybe she was out of mind because she was assaulted and those blood stains could be mom's". Ryan rolled his eyes. "You don't understand, this house had a bad reputation, no one had lived in this since 200 years " "this house is not good , whoever had stayed in this house were found dead under mysterious circumstances". Lisa frowned at him. " it could a coincidence, ghosts I never believe in them". "I think I should goona call dad"and dialed her dad's number but she looked a little surprise when she dialed the number. While she was speaking to dad and Ryan was looking somewhere else,I bent down to see his shadow. Ah! he has a shadow. "Hey, dad is coming home after half an hour" said Lisa. "Lets go to home"
Then we heard someone shouted "a man hanged himself in a tree! We looked at each other and went to that tree. Many people have gathered there. I looked at that man closely, this man was John! My mom's boyfriend.
"John "I said loudly and everyone looked at me. "You know him? " said Lisa. "Uh huh, he was dad's friend" I lied . "Oh my God! , why did he hanged himself ? Said Lisa. Suddenly a woman came running towards us and it was mom. She was fully covered with blood and shouted "this is the man who tried to kill me! Now he hanged himself in the tree breaking into loud sobs. "Mom "said Lisa and hugged her. "Dad is coming and everything will be all right " she nodded . I looked at the local people, they were just standing there like statues with no expression on their faces and I searched for their shadows. Not a single single person has a shadow except for the four of us. My blood froze. I remembered my granny said to me ghosts do not have their shadows because they are not human. The local people went away without saying any thing to us. I looked at Ryan, he gave me a worried look maybe he knew what I was thinking. He nooded his head to my surprise and came closer to me and said very slowly "we will talk about this matter later " and waved goodbye to us and went to his home.

Soon we reach our house. There was an eerie silence in our house which I didn't like. There was dad sitting on the sofa looked quite scared when he saw mom in blood stained clothes . He didn't saw anything and sat quietly there. Lisa and mom went to her room while I sat on the sofa with my dad. "Hey, who had done this to your mom? "Said dad slowly and bend down his head. "I don't know " I said . I know it was my mom's boyfriend but why did he tried to attack her? and why did he commited suicide? I looked at dad his head was still bent. "Dad? "I said and then his face rose up, his eyes were pure white and there was scars all over his face."don't think so much you are all are going to die soon " said my dad but it was not his voice. His face had become truly horrible and he was smiling at me and then I fainted.
