Alec
I looked down at the picture in my hands, of Magnus and I at the top of Eiffel Tower for our honeymoon. How I missed him. And this is all my fault. I sighed, putting the picture back into the album, making sure it isn't crumpled. I stared out into the night sky through my window, looking at the bright stars.
I saw my razor blade a few meters away from my feet, I stretched and reached for it, my hands closing in on the blade. I decided to cut yet another long line down my left arm, and for just a moment, I felt peace. This is useless, I shouldn't just be sitting here in my room cutting myself with a razor blade. If I want to feel the pain, I might as well do something more rough and more dangerous.
I grabbed my bow and some weapons, wore my gear and headed out. I didn't apply any runes, it'll be just me, my weapons against the demons. Let's hope I survive this, but I don't really care if I don't.
"Alec? Where are you going in the middle of the night?" Izzy's voice forced me to stop, I nearly reached the door, just a few more steps and I would be out.
I turned around slowly, "I'm going out Izzy. Isn't that what you all wanted me to do?"
"And what are the weapons for?" She eyed me suspiciously.
"Look, you wanted my to get out of room and out of the institute. Now that I am trying to go out, you want me to stay in here again? Can you just let me go out and enjoy the night? These weapons," I waved my bow around, "are for protection alright?"
She looked at me quietly before pulling me into her embrace, "That's good Alec, but be careful alright?"
I faked a smile and nodded. I stepped out of the institute and into the night. It's been ages since I last hunted out at night. All the last night hunts were exciting but dangerous. Very dangerous.
I jogged a few hundred metres down the institute, my eyes and ears on alert for any signs of movement of noises.
I saw Magnus' apartment just down the street. His lights are still on and I could just imagined him in bed, reading his favourite book in his pyjamas.
A high-pitched scream jotted me out of my thoughts, it was coming from an alley. I went into the alley, my weapons out and ready to fight any demons that come my way. I could see the source of that noice, it was a young girl of about fifteen, lying on the ground. I walked cautiously towards her and saw the pool of blood surrounding her. Demon. It was definitely a demon. I bended down and checked for a pulse, I found none.
"Dammit" I picked up my blade and scanned the surroundings, hoping to see some demons.
I heard another shout somewhere far off, I couldn't be sure since I didn't apply any runes but I decided to investigate. I jogged down the street, pausing for a second too long outside his apartment. This time, the lights were off, did he sleep already? How I wish I'm there right beside him.
I shook off these thoughts quickly, I screwed up, he hates me, he doesn't love me anymore and he probably never did. I'm pathetic and useless.
A few alleys down, I found the source of noise. Indeed, it was a demon closing in on a vampire? I wasn't too sure but I ran forward with my blade stretched in front of me and neatly striking it's heart from the back.
I watched in satisfaction when the demon vapourised in front of me. It is indeed a vampire that was attacked, a newly turned by the looks of it. She looked frightened out of her wits and I can't help but pity her.
I was supposed to be hunting and having a dangerous night and maybe getting hurt in the process but being the gentleman I am, I am going to help this young lady here.
"What's your name? And why are you here?" I asked patiently.
She shook her head and her hands were trembling when she tried to push herself off the ground. Her hands slipped and she fell back down.
"Look, I'm trying to help you here and I can't do that if you refuse to tell me what happen," I narrowed and eyes getting a bit impatient. Maybe I should just leave her alone here. She obviously doesn't want my help.
"I-I-I don't know what happened. All I remember was being at the bar and then-then I was being attacked by a-a-hideous thing I don't-" her voice shook and she was shivering.
"Alright alright, I think I know-" I broke off as I saw her eyes widened and she pointed vaguely to somewhere behind me.
The next thing I felt was a sharp pain at my back, my whole body literally feels like it's on fire. I glanced down at my chest and I could see a sharp claw protruding out. I couldn't breathe properly, everything looks blurry and the whole world seems to be circulating around. I felt the metal claw leave my body and I used this chance to twist around, grabbing the closest weapon and shoving it into the demon's heart. The last thing I saw before I spiralled into darkness was the demon vapourising into nothingness.
