Chapter Two

Blinking my eyes open a few times, I squint my eyes at the sudden light that seeps into the room I'm currently in. Looking around, a wave of confusion and then worry sink in. Did I just...no...I wouldn't. Would I? No...But wait..., I thought to myself. The blanket covering me smelled of cologne and sweat, an interesting but nice mixture. Shaking my head as if to dismiss the thought of me doing anything dirty, I pick up the blanket and wrap it around me like a burrito.

Walking around, I search for Luke, the kid I met last night. As I approach a room, light floods into the hall and I step into the room, unaware of who was inside. Luke had shaving cream streaks in his face and a razor in his hand, carefully cleaning the stray hairs from his face.

"Good morning, Luke." I say as he turns away from the mirror and looks at me, smiling.

"Morning Jade." He says and moves the razor in a way, that cuts him in the process of shaving. He sucks in a breath as blood comes out and I rush to find a band aid. Wetting a paper towel in the sink, I dab the blood away and put a small band aid on the cut.

"What, I don't get a kiss? You have to make it all better." He whines and I just laugh.

"Not yet." I say and smile at the thought. I bit my lip and lean in and whisper in his ear, "you're going to have to try harder than that, Luke".

He looks at me with lust and want flooding his eyes, something that I haven't seen before. Something foreign. I never knew this emotion. Amateur, if you will.

"Well, I have to get to school and actually unpack everything. It's just waiting there for me. I better go" I say and turn to leave. Suddenly, I'm pulled my Luke's hand and spun to face him. Our faces are almost touching.

"I don't think I could allow that, Jade." He says with a rough sound in his throat. I shiver and freeze in my tracks.

"What?" I say and a confused expression covers my face.

"I'll have to drive you, obviously." He says and a wave of relief crashes over me.

"Ok! Let's go before my classes start at 11." I say and exhale loudly. Grabbing my phone and bag, we jump in his beat up car and speed off to the college.

Pulling up to College of California in Sacramento, we get out of the car and head towards the front doors.

Opening the glass doors at the entrance, I sense Luke trailing behind me. A woman sitting behind the front counter smiles as I walk towards her.

"Hi," I say in a whisper, "Um I'm Jade and I just need the information for my dorm room. I already have an ID number but I need the key."

"Of course. Could you please give me your access key and ID?" She says and I hand her a paper filled with my information and she hands me a key.

"Thanks so much!" I say and I walk towards my room. Luke, finally catching up, begins to walk next to me.

"So...this is exciting, huh?" He asks and I just laugh.

"Sure it is. And, when we get to my dorm, then you can help me unpack! Yay!" I say sarcastically and he just smiles.

When we make it up to my dorm room number 114, I jam the key in the lock and turn it to open the door. The door swings open and a pale white room that smells of mildew and old lavender sits before me.

"Well then. We have a lot of work to do." He says and I nod my head. Heading over to the stack of boxes that were already dropped off yesterday, I open the first one. It's a picture of me and my mom, smiling and standing on the beach. I'm in her arms and she holds me tight, and we never let go. A tear slips down my face and Luke turns my head to face him.

"Hey, what's wrong?" Luke asks as he wipes away my tear. He leans in and is only inches away from meeting my face. His lips are centimeters from mine, but I realize something else. I stop getting closer.

"Hey, Luke?" I say in a small whisper. Just barely a sound comes out.

"Yes, Jade?" He says and I pull away all together, so that we are a normal distance apart.

"I can't do this." I say and I turn to keep pulling things out of the boxes.

"What are you talking about? What are we doing? Why can't you?" He asks and pulls my arm so will face him.

"This. I can't do this. I literally met you yesterday." I say and throw my hands down.

"Fine. Well, we can start somewhere, right?" He says and pulls me closer. I hug him and he embraces me back. Maybe we could start somewhere. Maybe.

"Yeah. Let's start now." I say and wonder if I'm making the biggest mistake of my life.
