As I walk to the bathroom, I do my business and wash my hands in the sink while staring at myself in the mirror. What is happening to me? I almost get suffocates to death, then my brother knows my roommate and avoids the topic, a met a guy at a beach and now I feel for him, and I get warned to stay away from that guy. I punched a guy in the face on my first day here and got my hair pulled out on the second. I need to chill out, I think to myself and regain my composure. I exhale loudly and nod to my reflection.
"I can do this. Just breathe." I say and it works. I calm down and walk out of the bathroom and back into the lecture hall. I plop down back into my seat and Luke isn't there. Oh well, he will come back.
For the remaining of the class, Like never comes back and I start to worry. I sent him a 'where are you?' text but didn't want to keep bothering him. Maybe he has his own business to take care of.
When the lecture is over, I gather my seven pages of notes and close my computer top and put all those in my backpack. Carrying my bag, I walk over to the café and grab a protein bar and an apple. Sitting down at one of the outdoor tables, I turn my phone on, eating my protein bar as I scroll through Instagram and SnapChat.
While I'm looking through all my five notification, yeah I'm not that popular, I spot someone familiar off the corner of my eye. Actually TWO familiar someones. James and Luke. They are talking and it looks like they're trying to be discreet.
How the hell does my brother manage to know my boyfriend and my roommate?! And my roommates girlfriend! How does this all work?! To be honest, I was a little creeped out by the whole ordeal.
Seeing them whisper like that, made me want to find out what they were saying. What can I say? I'm curious. And yes, I'm aware of expression, 'curiosity killed the cat', but I always saw it like curiosity isn't a feeling but more like a dog named curiosity. Either way, I need to find out what they're saying.
Leaving my apple and protein bar on the table, I sneak over to them without being over suspicious. My backpack hugs my back and I slowly inch towards them. They stand in the courtyard where a huge oak tree sits. Standing behind the tree for a hiding spot, I listen closely to their conversation.
"Uh, what do you mean?" Luke says and James tries to suppress his frustration.
"I mean, you can't be doing stuff like that! The fight that happened between Jade and Alexa cannot happen again! You can't just set off Alexa and let her loose on my sister! Not cool!" He says and a look of confusion and anger set on my face. What? This was all Luke? But wha-?
"We can't risk her getting hurt or injured in any way. That means, no going to public places and just try not to piss off any more people. If she so much as has a scratch on her, you know what Christian will do to us! We're going to be dead!" James says and all these questions flood my mind. As I lean forward, my shoe scraps the concrete and my eyes widen like a deer caught in headlights and I retract my foot.
"Who's there?" Luke yells and just shrugs it off. James, on the other hand, looks around to find who made the noise. Please don't find me please don't find me please don't find me. He then just walks away with Luke and I run the other way.
As I keep putting one foot in front of the other, I slow down a bit and my foot catches on a someones foot and I go flying to the ground. As I fall, I manage to also roll to the edge of the stairs and fall down those as well. My head makes contact with the floor at the bottom of the stairs and I feel blood coming out. My head is killing me and my arm feels funny and it hurts so much at the same time. I cry at the pain and chuckle at the irony. Wow, how'd I manage that? To get hurt right after my brother said some guys gonna hurt them? Ha ha hilarious.
"Oh my God! Are you okay?! Jade! Jade!" Luke yells out and tells someone to call an ambulance. I just lay there and cry at the pain, not saying a word. Whimpering in pain, Luke strokes my hair, telling me everything will be alright.
"Hey, it's okay baby. You're going to be okay. The ambulance is on its way. Hang in there. Please. Please." I smile at that fact that he called me 'baby' and I suddenly feel people sliding me over onto a stretcher and taking me into the back of a truck. An ambulance. Well, it looks like it. Kind of.
Feeling all the different emotions mixed with pain, I feel overwhelmed as the people in the back of the truck tried to help my wounds. They ask me questions and I answer them coherently and they stick fluids in my arms and tell me to hold on until we get to the hospital. Feeling woozy, I close my eyes and try to fall asleep, so I don't feel the pain of the injuries, not only physically inflicted but emotionally.
