I gaped. "Oh don't worry honey, he said he didn't really want to see you anyway, because he felt guilty and embarrassed to be the horrible father of such a um, lovely girl." She emphasized the word lovely to make it seem like I wasn't. "I would've said otherwise but- you just stay in there until you rot. Toodle-loo!" OMG, I wanted to snatch those words right right out of her mouth and wrap them around her throat so she could choke and, um- DIE!!

But what I really wanted to do was get back to Elmore. Why did I even leave in the first place?

Then I remembered: You are the Savior. You'll always find a way. That little thing! She knew this was going to happen! She knew she was going to die! She knew that I was ready, and she knew I could do it on my own! She knew everything.

Knock! Knock! "Um, Mom wanted me to tell you that you weren't getting dinner." It was Kenny. "Get your raggedy butt in here," I said. I heard the door unlock, and he stepped inside. I kept my eyes on the door. "Why are you always following that witch's orders?" I asked. "D-D-D-Dad t-t-told m-m-me t-to." he stammered. "Are you afraid of her?" I asked. "Kenny looked like he was about to cry. "Yes," he sobbed. "I'm afraid she's going to hurt you, or me, or herself. Why did Mom die, Cass?" He sat down on the bed. I lay his head on my shoulder. "It was her time." I said. "She knew."
