Jake (pov)

The studio was empty when I walked in. Amelia is usually here before me, her wild, red hair frazzled and her head down in that damn camera lens.

She was gone. I lost her. I let Madison get inside my head and I kissed her. Such a mistake, I could win "Idiot of the Year".

Todd walked in and headed for his office. He was yelling into his phone, waving his arms. "Well, thanks for letting me know!" He yelled sarcastically before hanging up.

"What happened?" I asked, setting an XL cup of coffee on Todd's desk. He grunted after kicking his chair. "Your photographer, Amelia Markham, seems she's gallavanted off to New York City."

She left because of me. I hurt her so much that she quit her job and left LA to travel 3,000 miles to NYC. Now I feel like an ass.

"Todd, can I have the day off?" I asked, reaching for my car keys. Todd gave me a sideways look before nodding his head. "I guess." Thanking him, I sprinted to my car.

I needed her. It was stupid of me to kiss Madison. All I needed was Amelia. All I needed was too kiss her again. One last look at that crazy red hair wasn't what I wanted. I wanted to interlock it between my fingers everyday for the rest of my life.

I love Amelia, and I missed the opportunity to tell her. Then, one night, I got wasted and ruined everything. I know it's only been a month, but I had never loved the feeling Amelia gave me more than anything.

I pulled into the airport, LAX bussling with travelers. With my suitcase in hand, I ran through security with the ticket I had bought 10 minutes before. Impatiently, I waited at the gate, texting my mom.

Six Hours Later

The flight attendent came over the loud speaker. "All passengers exit to baggage claim or the main entrance through the double doors."

A few people stopped at took pictures of me, prior to whispering, "OMG look, it's Jake Miller!" All I wanted was to find out where Amelia was. Once I got to the cab station, a limo driver was waiting for me. "Jenny called," he said, holding the door open for me.

Once I took a seet in the back, I opened my iPad case, and searched 'Amelia Markham' in the searchbox. The first website had the interesting title, "Topeka family dead in Las Vegas automobile accident." I clicked on it and started reading.

On their move to Los Angeles, Topeka, Kansas natives, Sherri (49) and William Markham (51), and their 19-year-old daughter, Amelia stopped in Las Vegas for a driving layover. On their way back to the hotel where their daughter was waiting, William and Sherri were killed in a head-on crash. Witnesses say William, the driver, was intoxicated, and spun the car out of control. The Coroner's report states the victims were dead in an instant. William and Sherri Markham are survived by their only child, Amelia and all their extensive family in Topeka.

My head was spinning. That's why Amelia was so hurt when she came to LA. This article was dated two months before we met. The only thing I could conjour was guilt. It was my fault. Her heart was already bruised by her parents' deaths, but I broke it when I kissed Madison.

I kissed Madison, not the other way around. I had to take responsibility for that, whether I wanted to or not. It was time for me to get Amelia back before my heart is crushed.
