I watched from my bed as my mom rummaged through my closet.

"What happened to all your ball-gowns?"

"I don't even own summer dresses, let alone ballgowns."

"Oh, right." My mom stood up and said, "Put on some shoes, we're going dress shopping."

"Huh? What for?"

"The dinner tonight."

"TONIGHT?! That's tonight, why not this weekend? Actually on Malissa's birthday?"

"Because they are going out of town this weekend. Get your shoes on, and hurry they close at nine."

I looked at my phone it read 7:13. I hopped up and put on my black high-top Converse.
-----------------------------------------------------
I got out of the car and walked into Urban Outfitters.

"Really, mom? Urban Outfitters?"

"Yes, it's cheap, and the dresses are really pretty. It's a nice place."

"Ok."

We walked into the store and went to a rack with dresses.

"Oh! How about this one?" My mom said, showing me a simple, short baby pink dress.

"Mom, this is the 6th dress we've looked at. I don't think this is the place."

My mom's face turned hurt, almost betrayed.

"Ok, then what do you want?!" My mom snapped. "I'm really trying here and it doesn't seem to be working. I don't know what you want anymore and it's really fudging irritating!"

"I'm sorry." I look away and see a dress that actually looked decent. "Hey, mom how about that one?" I said pointing to a black dress with a sheer upper chest design that was plastered with black polka dots.

"That's actually not bad, Dani."

My mom walks over to it and checks the price tag.

"It's only $49.99!"

My mom takes it off the shelf and takes it to the register. She puts it on the counter with the black wedges she got for me as well as jewelry.

"$109.67." The cashier says.

My mom pays, walks out, and drives home.
----------------------------------------------------
At home, I put on the dress and wedges. I sit in front of my vanity mirror. I put on my makeup that I was forced to wear. It consists of red lipstick, blush, foundation, mascara, and eyeliner.

I walked downstairs and got my purse off of the coat-rack.

"You ready?" My mom asked.

"Nope, never in a million years will I be ready to go to 'his' house."

"I'll take that as a yes."

We walked to the car and drove to the Mayor's house.
