The Interrogation

After my walk, I saw two police cars outside my house. I dashed inside and saw my mom talking to two officers, one in uniform the other in a suit and tie.

"Hi, Mom. Is everything OK?"

"Um, no not really honey. This is Officer Watson and this is Detective Franks. They're investigating the murder of Grant Michaels."

The two men looked at me and then looked back at my mother. "Is it OK if we question her?"

"Um, I suppose if she wants to."

"I'm Detective Franks, this is Officer Watson from Macilburg Police Department. As your mother said, we are investigating the murder of Grant Michaels."

"Hold up. Why are you guys questioning us and not the Mayor? As if we were the only ones there that night?" I asked.

"We were put on this case by the Mayor."

"Why should that matter? He made an appearance at the hospital on the night that Grant died and that technically makes him a suspect; same as us."

The two men exchanged looks. "I suppose you're right. But at the moment we need to question any close friends and/or family."

"I wouldn't visit a stranger in a hospital."

"What do you mean?" Officer Watson asked.

"I'm saying that maybe the Mayor was a close friend."

"Dani! Stop opposing the officers and just answer their questions, if not then go to your room. You're making this so much more difficult then it needs to be."

"It's alright, but do you mind if we ask the questions."

"Nope, I don't have anything to hide."

"Well, when questioning a suspect, we have to take them to the Interrogation Room at the station."

"That's fine."

I was escorted to the station by Officer Watson. They took me into this room with a reflective mirror, a table with two chairs on one side, and one on the other.

Officer Watson and Detective Franks came in after me and sat down on the opposite side of the table.

"We're just going to ask a few routine questions."

"Ok."

"Where were you on May 27th, Saturday night, between 3:00 PM and 6:00 AM?"

"I was at home."

"Were you with anyone?"

"Nope, my mom was at work, I don't live with my dad, and I don't have any siblings."

"Were you in contact with anyone, do you have a reliable alibi?"

"No. I guess technically my computer history can prove it though. I was on it all night until like 4AM."

"Ok. That's all the questions for now, but we do want your laptop as evidence. "

"OK. I'll bring it by tomorrow." I get up and so do they. They unlock the door and I walk out of the Police Department.

As I'm walking out I see Mayor Glover's car. I'm assuming they left when they saw me look because as soon as I glanced at them they zoomed off. The windows were too tinted for me to see who they were.

I walked home uneasily, with the feeling that someone was either following me or watching me. I glanced back but never saw anyone.

I got back home and cooked some Ramen Noodles. I relaxed on the couch until I heard hard, aggresive knocks on the door. I turned off the TV and cut out the lights. I ran as quietly as I could up the stairs. I locked my bedroom door.

My heart dropped and nearly stopped when I heard the door open.

"DANIYELLE!" I heard a violent yet familiar voice yell. The voice was clearly drunk.

I heard footsteps ascend up the stairs. I wanted to scream when my door started to open. My jaw dropped when I saw who it was.

"Dad?"
