I heard footsteps ascend up the stairs. I wanted to scream when my door started to open. My jaw dropped when I saw who it was.

"Dad?"

"Didn't think you'd still call me that." He said, taking a swig from his beer bottle.

I look at him confused, "Why would you think that?"

"I just figured you'd call me Tommy like everyone else because of what your mom told you." He belched.

"What was my mom supposed to tell me?" I ask. "She never told me I was supposed to call you Tommy."

"Well, good, she was supposed to tell you that you we're adopted."

My eyes widen until I remembered he was drunk. "Sure, of course I am." I say sarcastically.

"You don't believe me?" He asked as he burps, again.

"Oh, no, of course I believe a drunk, possibly stoned guy." I say snarkily.

"Ok. Fine. But I'm being honest."

"Why are you even here?"

"It was on my way into town, decided  to stop by."

"But mom doesn't even like you being here."

"She doesn't have to know. About me being here or what I told you. Keep it between us?"

My mom suddenly walked into my room. "I don't have to know what?" She asks as she walks in. "What the hell are you doing here, Thomis?! And you smell like a brewery! In front of Dani, really?!"

"Mom, chill! I have a question." I say as I glare at my dad.

"No, Dani, don't!" He exclaims.

"Don't what, Honey. What's wrong?"

"Dad says I was adopted. Is it true?" I say in a sassy tone.

She paused and stared blankly. She looked back and forth between me and my father. It worried me.

"Mom?" I ask as I lower my voice.

"I wanted to tell you, I-I," She then looked at my dad. "This is your fault! You should've told her! Why would y-"

I was enraged, hurt, and confused, all in one. "Where do you get off?! Are you seriously blaming him for actually being honest with me, while you've been letting me live a lie?!"

"This wasn't how you were supposed to find out."

"When were you even planning on telling me? If you were ever even going to? I think- I know you are just so selfish, you just decided to keep something this serious from me. And when you were going to tell me, were you not going to expect me to react like this? I'm literally finding out that my whole life has been a humongous lie!"

There was an awkward silence until my dad chimed in, "Please, don't be mad at her. It was honestly my mistake."

"Oh, please! The alcoholic screws up, so surprising! You are not to blame, at all. It's my lying deceitful mother! Who's not even really my mother!"

"Dani, please forgive me." My 'mom' says.

"Get out! Both of you, now!" I exclaim.

They walk out, but within ten minutes I hear them arguing, before Zelda kicks him out.

I was left alone in an ocean of thoughts and confusion. Why me?!
