"Standing before you today to farewell Grant is one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. Words cannot describe the sorrow and loss that I am feeling, but I will try." Karyn cleared her throat. "Grant was a wonderful, sweet boy. Even as a baby, he had a calm temperament and as he grew into a little boy, always took things in his stride. I remember his first day at school - I think I was more nervous than he was. I held his little hand and walked to the gate thinking that he was about to cry, but Grant calmly turned to me and said, "This is going to be fun, Mommy... Will there be lots of kids here for me to play with?" I laughed and assured him there would be." Karyn wiped a few tears off of her cheek, and Chelle stood boldly. "As Grant grew from a boy into a teenager, I could see the man that he would become - strong, steadfast and assured. He loved school and loved his sports. Every afternoon after school, he would race down to the field to kick the ball around with his friends. When he became captain of the soccer team, we were so proud. He was always competitive, but humble. Grant was adored by his friends and family and it is testament to him how many of you are here today to farewell my son. Not only was he a loving son and brother, he was a kind and giving friend. Someone who was always a pleasure to be around.
To have lost Grant is heartbreaking - it has come as such a shock to us all. His life was far too brief." You could hear Karyn's voice crack. "My family wishes to express our heartfelt thanks to all those who have given their support, compassion and love throughout this very difficult time. I know in my heart that he would not want us to be grieving for too long. Rather, Grant would want us all to remember the good times we all shared with him. Goodbye, my son. You will live in our hearts forever." Karyn gently put a red rose on top of the closed casket and walked back to her seat.

"If anyone one else would like to speak?" The pastor asked.

"Me." Said Chelle, still with a firm, bold face. "We are gathered here today in the memory of my brother, Grant, so that together we may acknowledge and share both our joy in the gift that his life was to us, and the pain that his passing brings. In sharing the joy and the pain together today, may we lessen the pain and remember more clearly the joy.
Now that he has passed away, of course there is emptiness and pain, confusion and of course rage at death coming to a young man of only 17 years, but in many ways, the gift of Grant's life is still here with us. He lives on in our memories and stories, and in what all of us have become because of him. So I encourage you to share -today, tomorrow and in the years to come- your memories and stories, and to share the pain of your loss as well. In this way we will keep the gift of Grant's life alive." Chelle stayed so strong through the whole speech that it was kind of sad. You could tell she was holding back an ocean of tears.

After the funeral, me and my mother said our condolences and went home.

"It's such a shame, what happened to that poor boy."

"Yea." I said dryly.

"Did you happen to see Mayor Glover and them?"

"No, now that you mentioned it, I didn't."

"Oh, well dinner's almost ready."

"Maybe a guilty conscience." I whispered.

"What was that?" My mom asked.

"Oh, nothing just humming."

I went upstairs to my room and texted Malissa.

Me: Hey! Where were u guys?

Malissawe were busy can't text rn ttyl!

Me: is it ok if i come over? if not then it's fine i honestly just want to know why are you mad at me?

Malissa: i told you i can't talk now buzz off!!

I stopped texting her and facetimed Chelle, she didn't answer I figured she was mad at me; just like everyone was at that time. I called Katheryn, she answered; I spilled.

"I'm so sick of this godforsaken family, Kath. It seems that everyone hates me. I don't even know what I did to her, but now Malissa hates me."

"Slow down, Dani. What happened?"

"I had to go to this stupid dinner for Malissa's stupid birthday and I didn't want to talk to anyone except for her and then Glover decided to start a conversation and he called me Dani for crying out loud!"

"Wow, Dani. That's such a crime."

"I'm serious, Kath. You know how much I hate him. And- OH MY GOD! He had the audacity to lie and say I call him Uncle Glover. Like what the hell?!"

"Dani I'll have to call back later, my mom is calling on the other line."

"Bye, I guess."

The call ended and I decided to clear my head by taking a walk. I put my phone on the charger and proceeded my way downstairs.
