Before coming up to the front porch, I stood a few feet away from where anyone could see me and I watched. I watched people in the front yard of the house talking and laughing. They were all happy. I was able to muster enough courage to walk inside. Everyone stared at me.
"Tyler!" Josh said, getting up from the couch.
"I'm glad you came."
Rose followed him.
"Troy? Oh I've heard about you." She said.
"Actually it's Tyler." I said politely.
"Right." She added.
"Want something to drink?" Josh asked as he lead me into the kitchen.
"No thanks. I'm good." I said.
"Well let me give you the grand tour!" Josh said.
He showed me the whole house and man, the house was really nice. He brought me up to his attic where the rest of his friends were and we sat on the couch together. They were all having a conversation and I didn't want to enter it so I walked over to the bookcase and grabbed something to read. I couldn't focus on the words on each page. I often found myself reading the same page over and over. I kept thinking about what those guys could've been saying about me.
"Hey Tyler why don't you come play?" Rose asked.
"M-Me?" I asked.
"You're the only Tyler in the room right?" Rose said.
I put the book down and sat down. One of the girls began dealing out Uno cards to everyone.
"Let me introduce these idiots." Josh said "This is Will, Jake, Theresa, and Ellie."
I smiled at them and they smiled back. I've never seen these guys before, they must go to a different school.
Will drew the first card, yellow 4. Then Theresa, blue 4. Rose, green 4. Josh, green 7. Jake, reverse and then green 5. Jake, draw four. Ellie, draw four. Then it was my turn. I placed another draw four. Everyone laughed at Will, he had to draw 12 cards.
"Thanks, Tyler." He said with a sarcastic tone.
I laughed too. I was genuinely happy to be around these guys. Now I actually have friends.
In the end, Ellie won. We ate pizza, played more games, and basically just had fun. I almost forgot there was another party going on downstairs but I could still hear the muffled music and chatter below us. Everything was just so chill up here. Towards the end of the party, I got the guy's numbers and we all started to leave.
"Hey I had fun tonight." I said, standing in the doorway.
"Glad to hear it, you should get out more." Josh said.
I smiled.
"Well I'll see you at school on Monday." I said.
"You sure you don't want a ride? It's pouring outside." He offered.
"I'm fine, I promise." I replied.
On the way home I couldn't stop smiling like an idiot. I probably looked so dumb. This was the happiest I've been in such a long time. My clothes were getting soaked but I didn't care.
I got home and my Mother was actually there. She didn't look as stressed as she usually does.
"Hey mom." I said, taking off my shoes as I entered the house.
"Hi Tyler, how was the party?" She asked.
"Fun actually. I met some other people and we became friends."
"That's good to hear. I'm going to bed okay, don't stay up too late."
I nodded and went into my room. I changed out of my wet clothes and into some dry pajamas. I didn't care to shower. I'll do it in the morning. Besides, I had other things to think about. I was actually happy tonight. I'm glad I came to the party.
