Bang Bang!
My eyes popped open, waking me up in an instant to the loud gun shots coming from outside my window, they sounded really close. I just laid there waiting for it to stop as I pulled the covers over my head. Reaching my arm down I grabbed my notebook off the floor with the pen sitting in the spiral. I wrote. South Central gets more and more crazier each day.
As soon as I walked out the house the next morning I spotted my best friend Ice Cube sitting on his porch wearing a Raiders hat, gray button down shirt and Levi's. As for my outfit, I wore a black jacket over a white T-shirt and black jeans. Not a typical outfit to expect from a girl, but who said I was typical? I wear a lot of boy clothes, people think I even act like one sometimes but forget the part that I raised by my brothers.
Let's just say my mother is absent for our lives, off and on. She takes what she pleases and gives nothing in return... except 17 years of trauma.
"Aye what's up T?" Cube greeted me as we dapped each other.
"Nothin' much. Are we ditching today or what?" I asked.
"Naw, I need to retake that Calculus test today or I can't pass this year." I groaned in frustration. Some days me and Cube ditch school to hang out with are other friends. "But chill 'cause we still going to that cook out after school at Jinx's house."
"Aw yeah I remember. He wants us to meet one of Dre's homeboys."
"Yep, I heard dude was supposed to be hella dope on turntables."
"Fuck yeah, I'm down with it."
"Cool now let's get on that bus."
After school Cube and I went over to Jinx's house, people were already there and everything was hyped. Music blasting, food cooking, people talking and dancing. We walked around looking for Jinx until we spotted him next to his cousin Andre, well "Dre."
"Jinx!" I called out for him. Jinx and Dre looked back at us, Cube and I headed towards them.
"What's Cube, T?"
"Sup Jinx," Cube said.
"Y'all looking good, thanks for coming."
"Aye if it ain't the children," Dre joked.
"We're almost 18," I said.
"You 17 and in high school." He laughed. "C'mon T I'm just messin'."
I laughed. "Who's this friend you wanted us to meet?"
"Oh yeah, my homeboy E. He's wanting to get into music lately, and since you and Cube write songs I think y'all meet. To be honest I can't to see his reaction when he meets you," he pointed at me.
"Why me?"
He smirked. "He don't know you a girl." He snickered.
"Dre chill," Cube defended me.
"Aight I'm just playin'. But aye let me get my homie right quick then we can get down to business." Dre walked away along with Jinx.
I sighed and stared down at my Adidas. "You think this dude gonna trip over me being a female?"
"I don't know T. Girls ain't too relevant in hip-hop"
I glanced up and over his shoulder. Dre was walking towards us with some other dude who was shorter than him.
"Cube, T I want you to meet my homie."
"What up, I'm Eazy," the shorty said. My eyes went from Dre to Eazy. He had light brown skin and Jeri curls. He was wearing locs and a white Sox hat. My toes curled, all I can say is...
"Sup nigga," I blurted out. Really T? Idiot.
"What's up Eazy," Cube said. He stretched his arm out to dap him up but bumped me on accident. I felt the hood of my jacket slide off my head and Eazy immediately looked at me.
"Oh shit!" He exclaimed. My long wavy hair was revealed. "Yo Dre, you never told me Major T was a girl. Had me fooled thinking she was a he."
"Well does it matter? The point is that she can rap and got some shit you gon' be interested in," Dre stated. "Right?"
I glared. "Yeah, I'm Major T and I write rhymes."
"Ight Miss Major, let's see what you got. Let's all go in the garage."
Eazy looked at me up and down I did the same.
"What nigga?"
"Hmm, female rapper?" I glared at him.
Well here goes nothing.
Eazy and Dre both sat down on the plastic covered couch once we got inside the garage. For some reason I was nervous and I don't know why. I have rapped in front of people before, so has Cube, but these were guys we have to impress.
"You first, Major. And was does T stand for? Yo name Trouble? Terror?" He laughed. "Tiara?"
"Tamera," I corrected. I wonder if E stands for "ego."
"Yo man give my homegirl a chance," Cube said. He whispered to me, "don't sweat this nigga. You got this in the bag."
"Ight niggas," I said, "this is something that I wrote. I reached in my back pocket and took out a piece of crumpled paper that had lyrics on it. From the looks of it, I guess I'm raping acapella. That's cool, music or not, I'm still a g.
That's my first chapter. Hope you enjoyed it. Comment and vote please.
