Emily
"Woah, you did what?" Jenna looks at me from across the lunch room table, her eyes going wide.
I softly laugh and hold my index finger over my lips, signaling for her to be more quiet.
"I sucked his-"
"Okay, I heard what you said, Emily." She cuts me off. "But, what the fuck? Why?"
I furrow my eyebrows in confusion, studying her facial expressions. "What do you mean?"
"You haven't even been dating that long," She rolls her eyes, taking a sip of her water.
"So?" I look her directly in the eyes. "A lot of people our age do it all the time," I defend myself, taking another potato chip out of the bag and eating it.
"Who even are you anymore?" A laugh leaves her lips as she stands up. I raise an eyebrow, now looking up at her.
"What do you even mean by that?" I begin to feel nervous as I wait for her response.
"This Emily," She points my body up and down. "This Emily is not the girl I remember becoming friends with," She grabs her now empty tray, holding it in both hands.
"Don't even say that, Jenna." I shake my head. "You're taking this way out of proportion,"
"Am I really, though?" She speaks harshly before walking away.
I stare blankly at the table beneath me, letting her words sink in. After awhile of sitting by myself, thinking things out, I feel a hand on my shoulder.
"Sup, Gates." I look up and see Hunter with a tray in his hands. Without any invitation, he walks around the table and sits across from me.
"Hi, Hunter." I say in monotone, not really being up for conversation right now.
"What's wrong?" He asks through a mouthful of pepperoni pizza. I scrunch up my nose and shake my head.
"Chew with your mouth closed, would you?" I cringe, seeing the chewed up food. "And nothing is wrong," I lie.
"That's a lie, Gates." He takes a large gulp of his water, a big sigh leaving his mouth afterwards.
"Do you think I've changed, Hunter?" I ask him, resting my chin in the palm of my right hand. He looks confused for a moment before beginning to say something.
"Everyone changes, Emily. Change is good." I look at him, somewhat wanting to smile at his words.
"You think so?" I ask. He nods and takes another bite of his pizza, this time chewing with his mouth closed, by my request.
"Why did you ask that, anyways?" Hunter asks me, looking into my eyes.
"Well, knowing Jacob, I'm sure he already told you what happened last night." I sigh, feeling slightly embarrassed. A small smirk plays on Hunter's lips before he nods in response. "After I told Jenna, she said I wasn't the same Emily she knew before," I explain, feeling upset again.
