The next morning, I found myself doing things I was very familiar with, but in a very different setting than usual. I was making breakfast, but in an actual kitchen!
Of course, I wasn't the boys maid anymore, at least not when they weren't on tour, and it wasn't like I had to make breakfast, but some habits and routines were hard to break.
One thing I did need help with was finding everything; luckily, I had Andy on hand to help me. Not help actually cook - Lord knows that boy could probably manage to blow up a kitchen making toast - but to tell me where everything was.
Salt is against the wall on the counter. Ketchup's in the fridge. Wrong cupboard, frying pans are in the next one. Um, we're either out of tea-bags or I just don't know where they are.
It just felt natural to start the day like this, with the boys all traipsing downstairs, still half-asleep, because they could smell bacon.
"Morning guys, sleep well?" I smiled, using a spatula to serve the hot food onto plates.
"It was all right" Jinxx replied before anyone else could, grinning at me in a way that told me he was never going to let the sleepwalking incident go. “Very interesting”.
“Oh yeah? Good to know, um, yeah, nice! So, CC, how much bacon do you want?!”
Nice subject avoidance there, Lukass. Congratulations.
Breakfast came and went without mention of the sleepwalking incident, thankfully, and within the hour, the boys were heading off to their practice room. I’d only seen it once, briefly, yesterday, but now I’d get a proper look since they were holing up in there for the next few hours.
“So, what are you guys gonna do? You writing new stuff, or practicing the songs you already have?” I questioned with a smile, walking hand in hand with Andy towards the back of the house.
“Mainly practicing, but we’re working on some new riffs as well. I’ve been writing a lot more lately, and I want to start putting those words to music soon” he hummed as we slowed to a stop, waiting for Ashley to open the door to their practice space.
As we all stepped inside, I marvelled at the space. Though I’d already seen it once, it was just as mind-blowing the second time.
Trophies, awards and cd’s lined the walls, as well as guitars and basses on wall hangers, which hung over a multitude of amps, peddles and leads.
It was clear that this was one of the most special rooms in the house to the boys; they seemed more at home walking into the room than they did when we’d came in the front door yesterday.
“Ready to let the neighbours know we’re home again?” Ashley grinned, retrieving a charcoal coloured bass from a wall hook and proceeding to hook it up to an amp.
“You bet!” Jake replied, the rest of the boys nodding along as they swiftly set their instruments up.
My blue-eyed boyfriend took his place behind his mic stand, glancing at me with the passion of a musician-doing-what-he-loved in his eyes.
“Set The World On Fire?” Andy hummed, changing the microphone tilt slightly so it was better angled towards his mouth.
“Set The World On Fire” Jinxx confirmed, raising his pick hand to hover over the strings of his guitar.
Three… Two… One!
“Saints born together to fight against the holy fables, the streets are where we pray…”

“So, three coffees, one water and a smoothie” I recited back, using the lull inbetween songs to ask the boys if they’d like anything to drink.
The rehearsal had only been going on twenty minutes and I was already completely enthralled in watching them play; in watching their group dynamic; in watching them play to an audience of me alone.
However, hard work is thirsty work, so I decided to grab drinks for the guys from the kitchen. It was almost instinctual.
With a confirming nod and smile from Andy, I wandered out of the room, hearing the guitars kick up again behind me.
My boys are so talented.
Feeling slightly giddy, I skipped across the hallway and darted down the first set of steps onto the landing. The house was amazing, it was just so big! Even the main staircase was rather grand; the staircase itself was made of polished wood and covered by a secured black carpet runner. It was very fitting with the rest of the house.
Coming up to the main staircase, I started to lengthen my strides, getting ready to take the steps two at a time. I hopped down quickly, and it was about half way down that my heart felt like it skipped a beat.
I misplaced my foot and stumbled forward, crashing down to the bottom of the steps under the cover of the loud music being played at the bottom.
With a thud and a snap, I hit the floor at the bottom. Hard.
