The Moons leading up to our departure were stressful, but boring. I’m glad it’s time to leave.
Dad brought us to the group of students that are going to Zat to train with us. We all stood around waiting to leave.
You could tell everyone was excited and nervous from the flick of a rainbow of tails and everyone’s ears were twitching every now and then.
Splash and I stood near the back, away from all the judgemental stares and ‘accidental’ bumps and kicks. From where we were standing I could tell that I am still the tallest here. Even when the guide and supervisor got here I was still taller bye at least a hand.
As we make our way out of town, this one group of unicorns broke off from the main group to join us. There was a tiny Air that barely reaches my knees. She has a light purple coat and a white mane with blue and purple streaks. A huge Earth stuck close to her. He was almost as tall as me, and built like a mountain! He has a stony grey coat and his mane looks like a mixture of good soil, clay, and some sand. Off to the side was a Fire that looks glad to be away from the main group. She has a bright reddish orange coat with yellow and orange specks on her flank. Her mane looks to be made of fire! She was bigger than the Air, but only made it to my belly. Leading the charge was a Water. She had a beautiful sky blue coat and a deep, deep blue mane that ends in a white making it remind me of the water splashing over the rocks in the river by our home. She was taller than the Fire, Air and Splash, but only made it to the top of my chest.
They trot right up to us and the Water immediately starts to talk in a soft and cheerful voice. “Hi! I’m Bubbles, that’s Aireanna, but we just call her Airy, beside her is Leaf. He’s her brother and doesn’t talk much. And finally at the back is Blaze. What are your names?” She is practically prancing with excitement as we walk.
I lower my head in greeting and Splash introduces us. “I’m Splash and the big guy beside me is Spark. It’s nice to meet you.”
There is something about new people that makes me nervous and quiet. The only exception to that rule appears to be Bubbles. I feel relaxed with her there, but if the others got to close I would tense and they’d take a step back.
We ended up walking the whole way to the town together, learning a lot about everyone. I learn that Airy is having trouble with her magic, but Leaf is only going because Airy is.
Bubbles is so funny and exciting! She made me laugh and smile more than I have in several moons!
We finally get to Zat and the chaperones start calling the magics and separating everyone into lodging. Soon, everyone left and I was still standing wondering where to go. I trot up to an instructor and ask, “Excuse me? Where am I supposed to go?”
He looks at me and snorts “There is a room set up for you over there. Now leave me alone!”
I start walking in the direction he motioned without a good bye. He wants me to leave him alone, I would. There is a run-down shack standing alone beside one of the fields.
I wearily approach and look inside. There are holes in the walls and roof and I could feel the chill of the wind. It looks like I would get better protection under a tree! I hope it doesn’t storm; I hate storms!
I left the area that I am to stay for the next Cycle. I can’t even call it a shack! It is just an area to me.
I walk through the town that was converted into a training center for us. There is a huge feed hall, infirmary, four training fields, an arena, and a large fire pit at the center of it all. As I look over the arena, I pass several others. They all avoid me and start whispering as soon as they seen me.
It is nothing that hasn’t happened all my life. I am use to it by now, but that does not dull the sting that is still there when it happens.
I keep walking, ignoring the judgemental stares. Luckily, I spot Splash and Bubbles trotting out from what I would guess is the water area. I run to meet them, gaining more attention than before.
“Hey guys! What do you think of this place?” I whinny.
“I like it so far! At least the lodging is good.” Splash replies.
My heart sank a little at his words. I guess part of me was wishing their sleeping area was as good as mine. The majority of me already knew it wouldn’t be.
“Ya, all the girls in my lodge are really nice! I can tell this is going to be fun already.” Bubbles adds.
“That’s good.” I am a lot less excited than I was before.
“What’s wrong Spark?” Splash asks. We are heading in the direction of the fire pit while we continue the conversation.
“It’s nothing, just missing home.” I sadly kick the ground.
I can tell Splash doesn’t believe me from the look he’s giving me. It is the ‘I’ll get it out of you later’ look.
