We are almost finished and about to leave when I hear someone I hear someone shout “I challenge Spark to a duel!” I turn slowly and look into the familiar face of Sandy standing proud in the middle of the arena.

Looking her in the eye, I say “Are you challenging me?”

She proudly nods so I snort “I accept.”

Fifty two unicorns separate like long grass as I make my way over to Sandy.

When we are standing in the center of the arena, I barely hear Gravel shout “Go!” and Sandy is running.  She is using a speed technique that I taught her.  I stand perfectly still in the middle of the circle and track her movements my sensing her energy.  She tries to fake attack, but I don’t react.  When she actually attacks, I am ready for her.  I move to the side swiftly and fake running to the left.  I run to the right and start circling her.  She tries to follow me with her eyes, but I am too fast and she quickly gets dizzy.  When she is distracted by her dizziness I run up to her and hit her back with my chest.  She falls, but gets back up again.  I walk away from her, leaving my flank completely unguarded.  She takes the bait and charges me.  I start running and urn quickly.  Sandy, who had been following me, misses the turn and runs right into the wall.  She tries to get back up to her feet, but she hit the wall really hard.

Having given up on standing she shouts to me.  “I surrender.  I clearly have a lot to learn, and am proud that I am learning it from you.” She bows awkwardly and I get a look at the bruise starting to form on her shoulder and neck.  When see ran into the wall, she turned her head to look at me and was very lucky that she did not hit her head or her horn.  A bruise will heal quickly; a cracked horn would have taken Rotations!

“Stand Sandy, you fought well.  It is not your fault I have been training since I was a colt.” I say.

The whistle goes again and everyone quiets down.  “I have an announcement.” Gusto says to his wind, “We are going to be having a class trip in three Moons.  The fighting went so well that the rest of the light shall be filled with magic battles! The tournament shall start at the whistle.  Go and relax until then.”

Everyone leaves in high spirits and all anyone could talk about are the tournaments and the class trip.  I am excited about the tournament.  I have never battled with my powers!

After the dirt and sweat from my duel is gone; I seek out the gang.
