Rewind to the time Santa was real,
To the time my family hadn't shared its last meal.
To the time Superman was my only hero,
To the time only Monopoly money went to zero.
To the time my dream was to be much older,
To the time I didn't have to look over my shoulder.
To the time I believed in those fairy tale endings,
To the time before my broken heart was mending.
To the time I thought on people I could depend,
Before I realized true love was truly pretend.
When being naive was my strongest asset,
When hope was adorned like a protective blanket.
I mourn for the loss of that effervescent girl,
Her purity glimmered blindingly like a pearl.
Carefree and kind,
A breathtaking mind.
I pray for her a warning be sent,
But for now let her remain blissfully ignorant.
